Sailor Kobe #28 And #34

I am a self proclaimed ink-o-phile. I can see the nuances in inks that other people would never even notice. But these two inks were really hard for me to tell apart. And let me just say that by blowing up the pictures you can see the differences much more clearly. In person, even with the page close to my face, I could barely see ANY difference at all. The pictures blown up on a computer screen is the first time I can really see them are different at all.

I do several lines of writing to find the places two inks differ. In written text, it looks like 334 is a bit darker.

But only sometimes. See this? #34 looks about the same darkness but a bit more yellow in undertone.

The colour swaths are usually where the subtle differences show through, but with these two inks, it actually confused me more.

In this moment, the shaded areas of #34 look darker, but the lighter areas seem more similar to #28 than they did in the last picture. Still just a tiny stitch more yellow but BARELY.

Could you tell me how close 28 and 34 are to 2014 release of Tokiwa-Matsu and the discontinued Epinard? I do really like Sailor's inks though have neither time nor money to accumulate 220 of them. I have and love Epinard and struggle to see much difference with current/new Tokiwa-Matsu. If you a bottle of it can I also ask how they compare with Kingdom Note Tanna Japonensis? I have a sense they are all close variants.

Tanna Japonensis is a very different type of ink. It's much more yellow in undertone, and the shading from dark to light means that you see a wide colour difference in the two areas. It' not really in the same ink category as these two. I'd put it as a more rich and vibrant and darker Alt-goldgrun.

 

I'll try and get a comparison done this weekend, but it looks like the first sunny day for toronto is Friday, so I won't be able to post pictures until then. I'll compare these two inks with 2014 epinard, t-m, and KN Tanna Japonensis. I won't do a full comparison, just line comparisons. I hope that's okay!

If I remember well, you were impressed by the Sailor Shigure ink when it was first released, a few years ago. Have you tried the new 2014 release of this ink ? Is it as intense as it was before ? Inks sometimes change a lot between batches.

thanks! I love the kobe inks and have 11 now (I know that is small stuff on this forum) and cool-japan has made it so easy and inexpensive to get them here in UK. The other sailor inks which are harder to get/more expensive I have ignored but every time I see s a sample of the Insect Japonesis I think it looks lovely...

I can't help it. I am going front to back, back to front, and a tad sideways, but it's been worth the effort given that I am now relatively close to understanding just how much I don't know about ink. Thanks....I think.
