Akkerman Rood Haags Pluche

I went in on a few huge Akkerman orders with a friend in Toronto (raging_dragon, I'm looking at you here!) and we split the inks as well as the bottles evenly. That way he and I each got to try out twice the amount of ink colours, and with 180 mL in each bottle, neither of us felt like we were missing out. Of course, I've be terribly remiss in doing reviews, having gotten distracted by Callifolio inks and Sailor inks and all sorts of other exotic inks. Anyway, here's my first review.

This red is nice, but it doesn't blow me away.

The light part in the shading is pretty washed out, and I guess I'm looking for a red that shades to a lighter but still vibrant red.

Still, it looks pretty good on most good papers ...

... and the shading is okay, I guess.

Do I sound less than enthused? That's how I feel about this ink. It's okay, but I wouldn't buy it again.

Well, I've been even more remiss in writing reviews. :)

I think this is my favourite of the Akkerman reds, but it's been awhile since I've used them. If I recall correctly this one is a slightly bluish red compared to the pinkish Staten Generaal Rood and orangish Chinatown Red. I found it to be a pleasant, well behaved ink, so if you love the colour there's no reason not to splurge. However, while I like the colour it's not on my personal must have list.

I don't have a comparison handy but I recall Red Dragon being considerably darker, more saturated, and with a hint of brown instead of blue/purple. Compared to Rood Haags Pluche, Red Dragon looks much bloodier - not the dried blood of Diamine Oxblood, nor the fresh arterial blood of Noodler's Antietnam, but perhaps partially dried blood...?
