Nostalgic Impressions - Apothecary Dark Red

This ink was purchased from Nostalgic Impressions - the bottle is described as an Apothecary Inkwell. The inks are available in 5 colors and I purchased two (red and purple). I'll post the purple review as soon as I have completed actually opened the bottle.

The description on the website is:

3.5" Tall Glass Inkwell with stopper

80 ml of Water-based Writing Ink-suitable for Dip Pens or Fountain Pens

Presented in a Beautiful Hard Cover Gift Box

______

Ready to grace any well appointed Desk, this Apothecary-style Glass Inkwell is 3.5" tall and holds 50 ml of ink. Hard Cover Gift Box. Your choice of five ink colors.

So, which is it? 50 ml or 80 ml? (my question)

The picture on the website is really neat.

The bottle stopper is wonderful and prevents leaks and spills. The mouth is wide enough to fit almost any fountain pen. Overall, the bottle is terrific.

Then, there is the ink (Larger image is here):

The other inks are described as

Hand ground Italian Writing Inks.

Alas, when I asked, this ink was made in China. Let's start with the name of the ink: DARK RED.

(In a few hours, I expect that I'll be past being aggravated with the fact that I received a heavily diluted orange-red.)

Bottom line - I won't be buying this ink again. The only thing that would prevent me from dumping the ink (and keeping the nice bottle) would be if this ink miraculously survives the 2013 Fade Olympics. I'm not holding my breath.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

How upsettingly mediocre for such a cute bottle.

Thank you, DOT!

After the disappointingly not "Dark Red", I was expecting a similar setback with the Purple. I can say that the purple is exciting. It has sheen! The purple is cool and the bottle makes it very nice.

Thank you! And what a neat bottle. Can you let us know later, just how tight these stoppers are (tailor-ground to match the ground neck inside?).

Those types of bottles can indeed sometimes be kept very safely closed -- like for an extremely expensive Cognac or Armagnac -- but that's a completely different story...

It's not a ground stopper, more like one of those plastic/rubber grip things. I've searched for some images to sort of explain.

Reminds me of some of the "pen brand" reds. Have you tried a wetter pen or a dip pen?

If we really want a solution to go off easily, then how about a container like this:

I stopped drinking my ink - 10 minutes ago.

As for dip pen - the ink was just washed out even in the bottle. The TWSBI 700 B is a really wet writer. The ink was just boring and it had to go! I've already repurposed the bottle.
