Hey guys, this is my first review! Let me know how I did. Suggestions are welcome! I'm not a huge fan of black inks, but I really enjoy this one.

Nice review! Good start!! I'll go along with everything -- as re ratings -- although I myself would give it a 2 or 3 for flow. Especially the scan-monitor partnership loopks good too.. In general, a good all-round blackl. Good maintenance and not too over-saturated.

First of all, welcome to FPN! Congratulations on your first review!

May I suggest that you try the dry time test with a fountain pen and not a dip pen? I believe you will find a very interesting difference in the results...

Also, if the spread, feathering, showthrough and bleedthrough results are "none", shouldn't the rating be a 5 (best) rather than 0 (worst)?

Pelikan 4001 brilliant black is one of my favorite inks and I thank you for this review.

Thanks for the kind suggestions! Yeah, I was debating on the "nones" haha I wasn't sure what to label them. I will make them fives next time. I currently do not have a fountain pen with me as I am out of the country. I am planning on getting one soon over here in Germany and then I might do a re-review!

Great review of, before anyone else chips in, the only black ink I would ever contemplate using. I do have a couple of bottles of other makes but their sole purpose is to stop the 4001 Blue-Black falling off the shelf.

excellent review, thanks! It's also one of my favorite inks, and I find its dryness to be perfectly mated to overly wet pens, like my Pelikan 120 (what a surprise...) and my Sheaffer Snorkel.

Great way to get started on FPN, as well, so welcome!

Thanks guys! I have been part of quite a few forums but you guys are definitely the most kind and welcoming I have seen thus far.

 

 

This was done exclusively using dip pens and the brilliant black ink. It is the border for a letter I am going to write. Just wanted to share it! Do you guys think I should shade in the "leaves" or leave them?

I use Pelikan Brilliant Black a lot, and have found it to be an excellent ink (for me).

 

It works fine in all my pens, vintage and modern.

 

Easily available, and not too expensive; I also like that it is surprisingly water -resistant.
