Aligning Clip With Nib For A Mb Boheme

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I'm looking for some advice. I've got a Boheme FP and when the cap is posted and the nib extended, the clip doesn't align with the nib. The clip is about 90 degrees off.

From what I can see, the only way to rotate the clip is to loosen/take off the back of the cap but it looks like a special tool is required to go down inside the cap to unscrew it. Does anyone have any suggestions? If not, it looks like it'll have to go to the MB Service Center, although I'd rather not have to shell out that much money just to rotate the clip.

Ed

Thanks for the link hari. I have seen your excellent post on the Big Boheme (I have one of them too). Unfortunately, the screw inside the cap of this current Boheme is a Torx screw with the pin in the middle, so it really needs a special tool to loosen that screw. It would have to be a Torx screwdriver with a hole bored in the center line to slip over the pin. It's not something I could make. I guess it's off to MB service........

I'll try. That's a pretty tough photo to take.

Hi hari,

I finally was able to get a decent photo of the inside of the cap of my Boheme. You can see the Torx head screw with the rod in the center. It would take a special tool to get that screw out.

Ed, superb picture. Thanks for putting it up. if you have access to some SS or brass tubing, you should be able to make a tool with two prongs on the top by filing away the excess using a microfile. You can use this to unscrew.

  • 5 months later...

Little late on the scene, was guided here by another thread.

Just to say, it looks like a torx tamper proof bolt. The torx tamper proof bits are pretty standard tools these days, just a torx bit with a hole in the middle to accept the tamper proof pin.

They come in six spline or five spline variants, so be sure to get the correct one, if you buy it. (6).

Not sure of the size, but small sets of these tools only cost a few pounds in the UK.

Could be wrong, of course, but may be worth a shot.

Good luck

Hey Ed,

I'm having the same problem with two of my MB Noir et Noirs, except mine aligned perfectly before I had to get both the back hinges replaced at the MB Service Center, when they arrived back to me, neither aligned... I was pretty upset about that, especially for what I was charged for the repairs and the 6 weeks I was without the pens. I believe both my caps have the pin in them, I'm just not that brave to take apart. lol

I just mailed a letter to MB today telling them about my issue.

Have you since gotten your fixed? And did you cap and nib un-align over time?

I've got the same problem with mine. I'm not quite ready to take the thing apart yet, but it just... bothers me... so I'm curious what happened too.
