Lavender Purple Ink Permanently Withdrawn?

Recommended Posts

I've been lucky enough to have been given a Starwalker fp from my wife for my birthday. I only ever use a fountain pen with purple ink, and the shop (authorised MB dealer in the UK) where she bought it from placed some Lavender Purple ink on order for her. After receiving the pen I also ordered some Lavender Purple cartridges from Amazon, which I've been using for the past fortnight.

The Mont Blanc dealer has called my wife today to say that Mont Blanc have withdrawn all Lavender Purple ink because of a viscosity issue, and they have no plans to reintroduce a purple ink.

Is this really the case? I'm going to be deeply upset if it is.

OH my, that's terrible. I own a bottle of the old purple and love it.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

To Guruchill

Hello everyone, this week, I got the same information from my MB dealer in Paris (France).

I still have one of the old type bottles plus one of the new type bottles, but if it's a viscosity issue I will check before loading a piston filler with it.

Strange timing; I just received a bottle of this color as a present in April. My bottle doesn't seem to have any "viscosity issue"; it write nicely and I like the color.

Does anyone know if this 'viscosity issue' is actually affecting ink in bottles, or is this an issue for manufacturing the ink.

I have a bottle of the lavender purple, and i like it (and haven't had any issues with it). Is it safe to continue using previously purchased ink?

i,d recommend using either Watermans Purple or Pelikan Purple, they are both excellent inks

Safe for your pen? I'm assuming it is safe to use unless Montblanc says otherwise.

I am assuming the "viscosity issue" is just some sort of BS excuse to cover some reason for ending it that they don't want to announce or admit. Like maybe some key ingredient is no longer EU safe/legal to use or is no longer available from any supplier.

If you're willing to consider other brands/purples, there are some really pretty ones available from Pelikan, Diamine, Iroshizuku...

Or Herbin....

I've had no probs with my bottles of the newer Lavender... I suspect they have some other reasons or someone here on FPN would have been complaining about it

We were at the Santa Clara (CA) Boutique last Friday, and I asked the rep about this ink.

They had Lavender Purple, and I said I wanted to buy some since I heard it had sold out.

He said they replaced the lighter shade (the ink I think is the one under discussion) with a deeper shade.

I had a 149 with Waterman purple in it, and the 'new' color was fairly close to that.

They 'discontinued' the lighter shade because a similar color will be related to a new product release, and they didn't want duplication, or even close to it. He spoke with reasonable confidence that the lighter shade will be back in the future. He said they do this from time to time.

Sorry if this reads like gibberish; my mind was more on my sick pen than the ink.

Looking at MontBlancs website, the Lavendar Purple is no longer listed for sale. So it's not looking good for the Lavendar Purple, which is a shame as it is such a nice colour.

So I have just purchased 3 more bottles of it (along with my current 1) as backups. So I shoud be setup for a while ;)

Any on-line dealers still have some in stock, that anyone knows?

My local Paradise Pen had a few bottles. They are closing their doors on 6/1 so call them now.

Real Shame! I thought this was a nice colour from the ink reviews, and it was pretty high up my "to buy" list :(

Hi Folks,

I'm almost through my first bottle of Lavender Purple. It's a wonderful color, my favorite purple. So I went looking to get some more, only to have trouble finding it. Not on the Mont Blanc web site and not available at many of the usual spots. I even found this thread via Google. It's a shame to hear that the color is being discontinued.

Anyways, Montgomery Pens was the only place I could find with some stock. I placed an order and it just arrived here 5 minutes ago. So if anyone wants to get some before it's gone, have a look over at Montgomery.

Also, for the future, what other inks are out there that come close to the very dark, saturated Lavender Purple?
