Perhaps MB should introduce another version of the Hemingway, this time based on the older Hemingway. Needs to be filled every morning, but only writes when it's empty...

It surprises me that, despite the negative historical appropriation, MB has never released a Nietzsche pen.

Or they could do a Derrida pen...all parts shipped separately to be put together by the proud new owner.

There is another thread in which someone names the author, I can't remember the authors name thou as it was not an author I am familiar with.

Honore de Balzac

Really?

That would be a great "gift to myself" next time I visit Paris.

...and the parts would not fit together properly once reassembled.

Yes Century, "really"... the pen will be grey striated.

An unusual color for MB (I don't think they used it often, except in one of the Copenicus LE, for instance, or the Statue of Liberty) with an unusual overall shape.

No need to ask : no I have no picture to upload for now... :happyberet:

"Negative historical appropriation" is more obscure than anything Derrida ever said...! What does it mean, in this context?

Anyone do a full collection of all Writers Edition FP?

Yes, I think there are a couple of FPN members with the full series. Myself, BrandonA, Goodguy, and I'm sure there are more.

:bunny01:

In the next few weeks I'll double check with my local boutique that I am on the waiting list for this pen :puddle:

About May/June time last year I got to see a prototype of the Swift. I'm hoping they'll get one for this pen for me to have a look at.

If the pen is grey as someone has suggested then the cufflinks (which I'm sure they'll release) sold promising too. I didn't get the Collodi ones as they were brown but I love the Swift ones.

In regards to Goodguy I'm sure he sold some of his pens around the time he stopped regularly posting in this forum. I can't remember forum aliases but others have stated they have the full set too.

 ever felt you have not got a clue what is going on ? That could have been written in Chinese and made about as much sense...... If I like a pen I sort of buy it not knowing a jot about the person it commemorates. Ignorance is bliss.........

I meant negative historical connotations...and I'm not so sure about Derrida's turns of phrases...he did use hedgehog as a verb.

My point about Nietzsche was more that MB has rigorously avoided any whiff of scandal when it comes to its choices of whom to honor. That said the canon of writers, artists and patrons is vast and varied. However, I would be interested to know how the selection process is accomplished--the design process is much more transparent.

There are thousands of different authors. There have been I'd threads where people have stated who they think should be honoured. If you ask 100 people you'll get a vast range of authors. I'd love to know the thought process that goes into the selection. Do they choose the author first snd then look at designs for them, or do they have a number of authors and pen designs and then narrow down the selection, or do they design a pen and then decide who it best suits (only the twain and collodi are really styled after a book in my opinion).

  • 1 month later...

I also got the the confirmation that this year's WE is tributed to Honoré de Balzac. MSRP is EUR 825,-

Like the last few years there is also a complimentary ink. The colour will be Turquoise in a package of 35 ml.

That means it is not the squared bottles. Those are 30 ml.

My preferred supplier (no affiliation just a very happy customer):

Appelboom

Very funny! ;) As someone who studies Derrida for a living, I have to say I never thought I'd see him come up on a pen forum! For inquiring minds, he is a French philosopher whose 'theory' of deconstruction spread like wildfire in universities in the states in the 70's and 80's more or less. Here's the wiki entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Derrida_on_deconstruction

I too would love to know how they decide on the authors. Do they take a vote? Who votes? The authors so far all seem very canonical--beyond dispute, and non-contemporary. In that sense they're limited in range, but that's not surprising. As much as I admire the artistry of the limited edition designs from Visconti and Delta, etc., Montblanc's restraint is a nice contrast to the huge range of limited editions they make to mark all sorts of occasions and indigenous groups, which is hard to swallow, given the prices they go for.
