Can You Help Match This Cap To A Pen?

Hello friends. You've been very helpful in the past and I am hoping you can come through for me one more time.

This is a cap that came in a lot of pen parts I purchased. It's burgundy color and it's marked Montblanc Meisterstuck but there's no model number on the rim. It's smaller than a 162 (I tried it). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It seems like a 144 or 146 cap, but I'm not so sure. Maybe other more knowledgeable members could give you some more information.

I think it's a cap from an MB 144 fountain pen. I just measured mine and it's about 2.5", the same as yours. The cap for the 144 never had the name/number on it and I think they renamed this model pen several times (144, Generations, Classique, etc.).

HTH!

Has it got any threads just inside the cap ? I suspect not. If not it could be a burgundy 144 fountain pen cap or possibly a 163 rollerball cap. Will check some of my sales stuff and get back to you.

Either a 163 or 144 Classique Bordeaux cap.

Also know that the "Generations" edition pens were a different line.

The rollerball cap and the fountain cap are identical on the outside, however the inner cap is slightly different because the rollerball has a longer 'section'. There is a groove in the inner cap that the ring at the end of the section snaps into. On the rollerball, it is approximately 32mm from the rim of the cap, on the fountain pen I measured mine at ~28mm. Swapping the pens in the caps is possible but it does not feel right in either case. Either the rollerball body does not go in so far and the ring on the barrel is still visible, or the fountain pen just jams into the inner sleeve with no positive 'snap'. Use a paperclip to find the groove and measure the distance to the rim. The inner caps look almost identical, when removed from the pen, except for the position of this groove, the colour of the plastic and the position of a breather hole.

Hope this helps.

Just what I was going to say

Joking aside this is just the sort of reply that makes this site what it is for information. Never fails.
