Market Value Of Mb British Racing Green

Recommended Posts

About the same as a grease-proofed, oiled and waxed, unused, short-barrelled .303 Lee Enfield. Priceless.

To those that are really bothered.

Think I'll stick to Diamine Racing Green.

Mauser 7.62 anybody?

Would a 9-mm version suffice instead? (My D version instead of a MB one does, although I have both).

Wasn't there a 7.62 of this as well? Or am I thinking about something else.

This particular colour originated in the 1920s as the standard colour chosen by WO for the immense 8 litre supercharged racing Bentleys (called the fastest lorries in the world by Enzo Ferrari). As Bentley launched their attack on the likes of Le Mans on the continent it became known as "British Racing Green". It has appeared on various distinctly British sporting cars over the decades, particularly MGs and Triumphs as well as more modern Bentleys and Rolls Royces. So British Racing Green is a very specific colour. I wonder how close the MB (or any other ink manufacturers) version is to the original.

AAMOF, yes, not to be mistaken for the 7.63.

Analogy: D's RG for their more swifty version.

.300 Savage has grown on me in my old age...as a child, it lacked some 50 yards. Yep, living in Germany does have some disadvantages like never getting the mdl 99.

In that four years ago MB Racing Green was so hated...the most hated ink on the com...all MB inks were hated. So were the pens.

As noobie one listens to them in the know....buy the bottle dump the ink down the sink.

I almost bought a bottle of Racing Green, had it in my hand.... even got a MX-5 in Racing Green. In I was going to go home and dump it right down the sink for the bottle. I did not understand shading...nor the appeal of murky green.

I bought Sepia instead... my first brown...even if it was not really a brown...and it wasn't all that bad an ink.

After MB Toffee came, after a year or two in cobweb corner Sepia came out and I got a second bottle on Ebay for only €7 plus postage more than 'new'.

I do have Seaweed and Vert Empire.

Of course the Savage 250 was another wonder round....again as a kid no one called it magnum or raved enough about MOA. :headsmack:

6.5 Swede. Another just enough no kick round.

Had I been in the States I'd not been able to afford pens, inks or paper.

There is also a small list of shotguns I'd bought.

Since I didn't want to pay the market value on MBRG, I've tried a lot of inks as a replacement. I'd say the front runner is Sailor Kobe #1 Rokko Green; it's $20 USD on ebay from cool-japan.

Sadly, MBRG was before my FP time. Wish I'd have been able to find a few bottles at a relatively normal price. That Rokko Green looks good. I don't see any Ink Reviews of it. Does it have much water resistance? If so, I'll get a bottle as an approximation of Racing Green and give it a try.

I think that the Diamine Racing Green is a great colour and as long as I like something, I don't care whether it looks the same as something else or not. After all, the Diamine one isn't claiming to be identical to the Montblanc, is it?

Wow, that is nearly identical! I actually have a bottle of MBRG (paid $50 for it), but I've been hoarding it.

The Rokko Green looks identical to my discerning eye when writing with a wet medium nib. However, if you do colour swaths and look closely, you can see that Rokko Green is slightly greener on the lighter shading parts.

Still, I've tried a lot of greens currently available, and even tried mixing a few, and this is as close as I've seen. I can't tell the difference when looking at a page of written text.

I haven't checked it's water resistance, nor have I done a review. I've got a long weekend coming up, so I'll get on that and report back. :)

Yay a fellow Bentley fan!

I do love it when we stray into my world...two hobbies at once!

I actually owned an 8 litre...they weren't supercharged (although anything goes in the racing world!) but to my knowledge the factory raced the 4 cylinder cars, Of which the "Blower Bentley" was the only forced induction car that I am aware of and it was a 4.5 litre car...they also raced 6 cylinder cars...again I am not positive, but don't think there were forced induction ones the factory raced...but I could be wrong...I'd have to check my resources. A new research project!

Getting back to the ink...I got some of the Kobe inks to try and have not tried them yet...I just went to look and one is Rokko green!!! I know what is going in my new green pen!
