Hi

Can anyone tell me why my recent MB 149 nib is only marked 750 & not like my other 149's that have both a 750 & 18c marking on the nib?

This is a100% authentic montblanc & purchased from a reputable dealer in Canada last month.

Thanks!

As Hari said, your pen should have the imprint 18K clearly above "MONTBLANC" which should be located just above "750".

Hi,

I think a few of the newer MB pens forgo the 18K and only have the 750. I heard about it recently and saw a few pictures of the new nibs without the 18K designation and only 750. I'll wait for others to chime in since my newest MB still has 18K on the nib. It's not a Meisterstück though and uses a different MB nib design. I remember seeing this on a very recently made 149.

This would be interesting to know. The 149 featured on the Montblanc website clearly shows the 18K imprint. Does the gold capband have the Meisterstuck 149 imprint? Seems to me that newer 146s do not have "146" imprinted on the cap band.

Someone else must have a brand new 149 out there?? Mine are all at least 15 years old.

Your recent 149 nib should have 18K stamped on it. Pls post a picture.

Pls do post a pic.

I have a very recent 149 purchased from a boutique and mine is also missing the 18K stamp. However, unlike any of the nibs pictured in this thread, It has AU 750 instead of just 750.

I will try and snap a picture tomorrow.

This sort of information is beginning to worry me. Didn't know I was in the market for a new 149, but with a different nib available, looks as if I may really truly NEED to take the plunge & add the new nib to the collection. Thanks for the info and as always, Kai & Hari for the great photos! Best wishes, Barry

Hi,

That sounds and looks about right. I remember hearing that they now write AU 750 instead of 18K 750.

Enjoy your pens!

This change (if it's a taste of things to come) is all very interesting but, any guesses as to why exactly? Why alter such a long standing convention?

Likely all the other precious metal alloys that are showing up. Adding AU specifies we are talking gold and not titanium or some other metal.

still no pic?

Not many new 149s out there??? :hmm1: 'Twas a quiet Christmas.

As mentioned, the powers that be, at the Montblanc website, display the "current" 149 nib we are familiar with.

Go to the site, hold mouse over "Show Collections", then "Writing Instruments", and the 18K nib is displayed.

I guess nib stamps are retooled, or replaced every now and then. Helpful for future dating of 149s.

OOPS, forgot link for MB site:

If there has been a change, why doesn't Montblanc just announce it?

Steve

They don't announce minor engineering changes as it doesn't improve their bottom line.

OK.

But on a different tack, if MB had done this through the years, those of us trying to more accurately date 149s (& other models) would have a much easier time.

Except for the fact that most changes are not made based on some date, rather it is a matter of stock on hand. For example a nib stamping change like this will be incremental with both old and new style nibs being used at the same time.
