It is a 139, the way to repair like Eizo is possible to follow. Not my way, but possible. Thanks for sharing this video.

No need to apologise here VirtuThe3rd. You have done us a great service by posting these videos and it is for certain that Max was only pointing out the oversight for those that might not have been aware.

 

Just to highlight the value of your generous post; I had previously bought all the tools I thought I would need to be able to carry out my own basic pen maintenance, with cork replacement and nib adjustment being my biggest need. I had previously purchased 4 cheap, non-descript, 1940s-1950s piston-fillers and 3 not so cheap but equally battered Montblanc pens from the same period, which I would not be happy to have had in my collection. These 6 pens were bought so that I might practice on these before looking to service my own collection. I was happy with the notion that, in the event I destroyed these pens, the worst that could happen was that I would have a few ‘spares’

 

Prior to viewing your post, I had already broken three of the sacrificial pens trying to remove the section from the barrel. Melted 1 pen, cracked/snapped the barrel of another, and almost succeeded with the 3rd but ended up breaking-off the barrel threads with my idiocy. Having never had the opportunity to see anyone do this for real, it felt as though I was trying to learn to swim from a book only, and my confidence took a real dive but I remained determined and have been trying (without success) to separate the sections of another 2 pens since.

 

Hugely excited at coming across your post (viewed video 5 times), I went to bed (very late) determined to have a go the next day. Can it have been so easy to open up a MB 139?

 

This morning, I successfully separated two of my remaining cheap pens. The barrel threads remain intact and I have not distorted the sections at all. :clap1: Yippee! I cannot believe I have actually taken apart these two pens (only took 20 minutes) and I am now looking to tackle the 2 battered MBs tonight.

I don't think it's easy to repair vintage piston

-fillers by myself as well. But you did it! Cool.

Almost all of Montblanc 139 except "Mint-tocks"

have secular changes on the barrel. So, if you

open it up very carefully, you can make it. ^^/
