So I ordered some P.W. Akkerman ink because I just could not stand to see anymore videos or pics with those dang bottles and not have them. Now I do have samples of them I got from amberleadavis a while back so I do actually like the inks and how they write lol.

Ok so here is the run down. Shipping starts at € 20,00 and you can order up to 3 bottles before it jumps to € 30,00 for shipping. So i went for 3 bottles at € 13,64 each and my total with shipping was € 60,92 or $79.51 USD.

I ordered on Nov. 12th & it arrived today Nov. 23rd. Netherlands to New York in 11 days !!!

I paid by paypal and got a confirmation right away which is good so I could check that my address was 100%. It did not show my state for some reason. I emailed Akkerman my full address who in turn emailed me right back saying they got the order and the correct shipping address and would be shipping it out that day. Paul Rutte is the one who emailed me about my order and gave me what they call the "barcode" to track it. I used that # on the www.usps.com website and was able to track it once it hit the US. Great to know when it is going to arrive as you do have to sign for it.

Packed really well to and arrived in 100% condition. REMEMBER these are 150ml bottles. Thats a lot of ink & works out to less then .18 cents a ml. or $26.66 usd per 150ml bottle shipped!

I got colors #10, #13 & #23

Here is a quick unboxing video so you can see how it arrived and how it was packed... and just some extra eye candy.

EDIT: here is a quick swab of the inks

You would have been quoted a price including VAT first, and then, because you don't live in the EU you were exempt of the 20% VAT!

Nice story of a delivery that was perfect! I have three of their bottles of inks and love them!

Same price as yours even though they travel further...to Australia! :cloud9:

VAT varies by EU country but is generally in the order of 20%, give or take... unless you live in the Channel Islands. Lucky sods get away with 5%.

Still, business who regularly ship outside the EU will take off the local VAT and trust your own Customs to intercept and apply any appropriate local sales tax and duty where applicable.

EDIT : any chance you could rotate the vid to landscape mode and resubmit to YouTube? Oh, and while you were taking off the tape from the bottle one-handed on the edge of what appeared to be a glass table, I was waiting for the accident to happen!

Sorry about the video. It was hard enough holding off just tearing the box open as soon as I walked in. I filmed it on my phone and just uploaded it directly to youtube.

And yea... glasstop table. There was no way I was having any accident lol but it did occur to me which is why I used 2 hands after a minute

Thanks. I just ordered three bottles. A total of about $80 shipped is not bad. Of course, I did not need more ink.

Dutch VAT was increased from 19% to 21% on 01-Oct. I suspect that Akkerman kept the retail price at EUR 16.50, to keep the psychological price point (absorbing the 2% from their mark-up). If they had kept the original nett price, the new retail price would have been EUR 16.77, which would look awkward.

It seems our VAT increase results in an EUR 0.27 price advantage (per bottle) for non-EU buyers. So, non-EU FPN-ers, please buy a lot off Akkerman inks: you are getting a good deal on some great ink AND you are supporting the EU economy! ;)

Thanks,

My order arrived yesterday!

Impeccably packed, same as yours.

I can NOT BELIEVE how huge the bottles are. And with the Dutch labels, they look and sound like Harry Potter potion bottles.

So far, I love the Shocking Blue and Pulchri Pink (seriously, if that doesn't sound like a Harry Potter potion I dunno what does). I don't like the Simplisties Violet as much as the others. We'll see - I put the first two in pens but haven't written anything yet.

I filled an empty Diamine bottle from one of these, and STILL had plenty left in the original bottle. That much ink definitely made it worth ordering from overseas.

Thanks again for your post, without which I never woulda had the courage to order myself.

I have three Akkerman inks and have just ordered 4 more. Great colors, those fantastic bottles and at 150 ml per bottle, even with shipping it comes out to about $11 per 50 ml... or 70% cheaper than iroshizuku purchased in the US. I love iroskizuku but am an Akkerman convert... and at these volumes can give samples to my buddies! Great ink, great bottles and a great deal too!

Pulchri Pink is named after the famous art society in The Haque. It was established in 1847 and the word Pulchri is latin for trying to make things beautiful (like in french 'beaux arts')It still is an active art society and gallery.

Like all the names of the Akkerman Inks, its typicall for The Haque, as a reference to the homebase of the most famous and oldest fountainpenshop of Holland: P.W.-Akkerman.
