Can A Man Use Yama Budo?

I am really interested in Yama Budo but being partially color blind, I can't figure out if it is too feminine for a man to use away from the privacy of his own home. Will Yama Budo get me laughed at?

I am not a big fan of pink and thus don't really love Yama-budo, but I think it is very insecure to avoid it just because one is worried that immature sexist fools around them might ridicule it as a lack of machismo. Remind them of the days when baby boys were associated with pink and girls with blue and it has absolutely no bearing on the virility of your sperm or your ability to satisfy your partners. Good luck.

Robert.

There's no pink tone whatsoever in Yama-budo.

Ok, but magenta is considered a pink of sorts, isn't it? It looks hot pink to me.

2 distinct issues here.

No.

Will Yama Budo get me laughed at?

Probably.

Don't you have that backwards? Or is it different in your part of the world.

I have one pink pen (a Uni Power Tank bp) and would only use it in public if I was looking to get a laugh or some other kind of reaction from friends. If this makes me a sexist fool, I'll happily live with that.

Still don't look pink to me. Then again I'm getting old and blind. :)

I'm a man :) I use Yama budo in 3 of my daily 8 carry pens. I find it very vibrant and perfect flow and just great for making notes in class. Does it stand out? Duh! That's the point. I say if you are afraid of your masculinity under fire and you have the bottle please send it to me :) Mind you it also has sheen. If you use broader nibs you will see a yellowish sheen as well. Don't know if this falls in your lines of thinking of "feminine stuff"

Am I not to use blue ink because it makes me look butch?

Yama budo is a beautiful magenta. In a very dry writer it can look more pink. In a very wet writer it looks very much like a deep wine. Pick a wet writer and be happy with your new winy ink if it really worries you.

To me, the answer is, no, it's a nice ink and as a woman I don't find it particularly feminine.

But I kind of agree that if you have to ask, then you'd probably be happier with something else. How about a burgundy like Diamine Syrah?

I use it quite a lot and the last time that I looked, I was still a man.

It's a beautiful ink so go for it, and damn the torpedoes.

Man up, dude!(as they say)

This is the 21st Century. Whatever you want to do is okay! IMHO Heck, my son-in-law (a rather macho welder) wore fingernail polish to the prom and at their wedding. He never felt threatened. Heck, men wear pastels all the time these days and look pretty darn fine in them, too. I think sometimes some guys make way to much of this kind of stuff, besides, you have an excuse. If someone gives you a hard time, tell 'em you're color blind, and a lot of guys are. Just say it looks good to you and you like it. Tell your would be harassers to get over themselves and grow up or whatever you're comfortable with saying.

These ink and gender role posts drive me bonkers.

It's INK. In a pen. NOT a big deal. NOT a statement of what bits you have or what you like to do with them.

Who cares what other people think? If you're THAT concerned, stick to black. If you like the color/ink/behavior... GO FOR IT! Life is too short to worry about the perceptions of others.

What was mentioned earlier about the hue of Yama budo is correct, it varies greatly depending on the pen used. Deep wine in a wet writer, more magenta in a drier pen. Lovely either way, and it should be enjoyed no matter your sex chromosomes.

Yama Budo is on my Jetpens wish list along with a couple of other Iroshizuku inks. I plan to buy one of them, but since they are so expensive, would like to think a bit about which one.

I don't expect to have my man card revoked on the basis of my choice, however.
