Carrying Ink When Flying/traveling

Subject says it all - what bottle do you guys use when carrying ink on flights? Are all ink bottles leak-proof if closed tightly enough ? Any brands likely to leak?

Ideally, I'd like to find 2-3 plastic (not glass) vials which can take 4-5ml of ink apiece. Do any such beasts exist and if so, where might I find them?

TIA.

^^ Gracias! Just ordered a set of 15 off Amazon. Now I have to buy 15 different colors of ink to go with it. *sigh*

Bruce, what's your source for these? I ordered 20 at $0.63 each direct from Nalgene in '09, but the link appears to be dead. I've given away enough that I'm about at the end of my stash.

I buy inks from the internet and they are shipped in the bottles that they came with, all the way from Malaysia to the minus-20-and-below Canadian winter.....And they made a stop in Alaska.

So I don't think you need to worry about it to much.

Just be careful like using a extra bag over them and so on.

I use the generic HDPE 5mL designated vials, which actually hold 7mL.

I've been thinking for a while that 1000 for $55 USD is a really good idea.

These are the vials that people generally receive samples in.

There's also a person on eBay who sells them for 20 /$4 or something, a person who primarily sells scented oils. The price is inflated, but still very good, and the seller is a very honest person.

They should be available at laboratory supply stores. Googling on 'nalgene wide mouth 15 ml' or whatever capacity you want will show which online stores carry the bottles. Grainger has 60 ml bottles for about $1 each, if that size will work.

Why not use a cartridge pen when flying? If you run out of ink during the flight, just pop in a replacement cartridge. Trying to refill a pen from a bottle en route could get kind of messy, especially if there is turbulence.

Oh, I found plenty when Googling, but I was particularly wondering what Bruce's source is--if anyone can find a good deal, it is he!

Try this Nalgene link Brandon.

I got 8 of them from Ebayer outdoors_outlet for about $1 each shipped but he is out of them right now. I also agree with Googling for them. If I wanted more than I got, I'd probably go with either Nalgene themselves or Amazon.

Hi,

I use the FPN ink exchange vials. They hold 7ml completely filled but 5ml if you fill them in such a way that you can fill a pen from them.
