This green SJ came with a broken tine on its nib. Then the nib came out of the socket while I was trying to unscrew it. So, I put this Montblanc 14K two-tone nib in the pen. The two-tone sort of goes with the silvery furniture. It works, doesn't seem to leak and writes a medium wet dreamy line. I like the result, it seems that the smallish MB 144 nib from a ruined pen seems appropriate to the pen. If this works, I will get someone to put it together right.

That's really cool. I might see about getting the cap band gold plated too.

Very sweet, can we get a writing sample?

I'm at work till 10 pm, but I'll try to get my old HP camera to catch it later. I'm using this pen today, and it's decent.

Thanks. Unless it springs a leak I think this will be a keeper. Gold plating on the band and clip . . . that would be sweet, not sure how that would be done. Maybe I could get a jeweler to do it. The two-tone nib does make it work cosmetically as is.

Oh my! What a delightfully scandalous marriage of pen and nib!

Well, here is a writing sample. I used the pen all yesterday afternoon. It's a nice writer. No leaks. The pen has a nice shine and good imprint. It must not have been used after the prior owner broke the tip off of one tine of a 2668. I can see I am going to be compelled to use this pen a lot.

Excellent example of repurposing what might be otherwise discarded... at the end of all things, it's really the nib that matters most, isn't it?

Very nice, good job! The 144 is a cartridge/converter, yes?

Yes, the 144 is a C/C. I wanted to make some use of this nib for a long time.

I would have likely just put the nib in the melt pile. I'm warming up to the idea but this sill decreases the value of the Esterbook.

I was cogitating making a stub out of the 2668 and putting it in a Parker Vacumatic, one of the blue and white ones.

We TOLD YOU to lock your doors and windows and hide your wimenz. ;)

Paul, you *seriously* need to join in the fun with that pen in the Show your pen and writing thread in the Writing Instruments forum. You'll give the Diplomats all the vapors.

I was thinking "Brookmont."

Back when I did this I had an inadequate appreciation of Estie nibs, not having experienced the more interesting stubs and italics. Now I would be halfway tempted to put a broken 9312 in a MB 144. A Montebrook, perhaps.

If you don't have fun with this stuff, what's the point of having it?

Montebrook is good. I like that. It combines the sound of General Montgomery's nickname and contains both Mont and E'brook as a shortened form of Esterbrook. Very evocative and noble-ish name.
