Vacumatic Pellet Pocket Replacement

Recommended Posts

I needed to replace the pellet pocket on a Parker 51 vac I was working on today, and I found the perfect part. The plastic insulation on a .187 x .020 electrical terminal.

The narrow end is a perfect fit on the end of the plunger rod, and the fat end is a good fit for the pellet. The plastic on these is a heat shrink plastic, so it's fairly easy to shrink the end, creating a lip that holds the pellet in place. I used a heat gun. Just hold the edge on the hot gun, turning it and checking until you get a good fit for the pellet.

The metal part of the terminal is then pulled out and the narrow end is ground down to make it shorter. A little epoxy holds the pocket on the end of the plunger rod.

I put it all back together, and hopefully this 51 will be good for another 65 years. :)

That's brillant indeed! Your idea comes just in time for me since I have an old 51 with broken pellet waiting for a solution like this. Thanks for sharing!
