Question About Pelikan 3 Pen Case

Recommended Posts

Hi~

Yesterday, I went to the store to look at the Pelikan pen case, and found that it fit well for M1000.

So the width is OK, and now the only thing still upsets me is, when carrying the case, will the pen surface (exposed on side part of the pen case) be scratched? :crybaby: <See the arrows in the following pictures from nibs.com>

I have been carrying a wide range of pens (Pelikan 800 and 900 size, Nakaya Cigars, Sailor maya) in Pelikan cases for the last three years. None of them has ever been scratched in eth area you point out.

The Answer to Life, The Universe and Everything? 42 or Good fountain pens and Ink?

I've never noticed any scratching in the area you point out. I have carried many different style/brands of pen cases with the open side and never noticed it to be an issue. But, I don't carry my pens in a tool box either. My pens are usually in something like a brief case (soft sided) or in a pocket in other bags I use and typically only in contact with the fabric or papers or an occasional cell phone. So I think it would depend on what kind of situation you use to carry said pen case. Plus, my M1000 doesn't seem to have much of a problem riding in my 3 Pelikan case either.

Um, I think so too. And I might carry the case in bag, handbag, pocket in shirt or trousers, and so on. Hope that will be fine.

Wow, that sounds cool!

Did you take extra care of the pen case and place it in some soft and smooth circumstance, such as fabric or leather surface? Or simply place it in somewhere(bag) together with the rough items, e.g., a key, an earphone, a book or some other things?

I do need to keep my pen bright and gorgeous.

I don't just go throwing anything into my bags where I know the pens are riding. But I don't particularly worry about it either. I just try to keep my keys away from the caps. But I also think that pens are to be used (not abused) they will eventually get a little bit a scratch wear on them no matter how careful you are with them, it is to be expected with something we use regularly and the wear shows how very much the pens are loved and USED. Minor dings and scratches can be polished out if it is absolutely necessary. After all, look at some of the antique fountain pens that are over 50 years old and you will find some that look almost like they came right out of the box. That means a seller has cleaned it up, made it look pretty in order to get a better price for the piece. Do we really care that much? Some do, some don't. I want more performance than just beauty. Don't you?

Besides, remember "life is messy!"

Get the case. You'll love it and love carrying your pens in it.

Or if you are really worried about pen damage find a case that completely covers your pen or one with a zipper. Pelikan had some of those zippered 3 pen cases available not to long ago. I'm sure you could find one of those :)

Just have a good time, dear.

Oh, how kind you are! Well, I may know the answer now. And I think I should also gradually chip away my perfectionism and learn how to live comfortably with the mess. Haha. :roflmho:

Thanks for taking time and sharing your excellent insight!

First get some good wax and wax your pens. Scratches are then very much harder to do, same with mars of posting.

I have a slew of old pens, most were not marred from posting. In that I wax, none have been marred since.

I keep the pen cases in my jacket pocket, except when flying long haul when they stand upright in my brief case or travel bag. So no special attention. The pens are there to be used wherever I wish to write, and they do. :) But I often end up just polishing them with a cloth whilst I am in meetings just to get the glow or shine going.

I think the only way to scratch your pens in that case, is leaving it near with small scratchy things like keys or other metal small parts.

I always carry my pens with that case in upright position and in different bag department away from keys, cables, tools e.t.c.
