Vacumatic Pellet Socket Source

angio

Recommended Posts

The last three P51 vacs I've opened up have needed a new filler socket. The first shattered as the pellet came out, the second was just a fine dust in barrel and the third literally disintegrated into a powder before my eyes as soon as it came out of the barrel.

To that end I need to find a source of new ones to replace the now absent ones. I have seen them up for sale on the classifieds but there aren't any there at the moment so I will be putting up a want to buy but before I do I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a website or someone I can approach directly?

They're moving websites, though, so you might be better off emailing them.

Thanks! You are officially my current favourite person (a certificate can be made available for the duration of your title upon request).thumbup.gif

Haha, well it's always nice to be able to help out from time to time, especially after receiving so much help myself.

I know it's not quite the "certificate of my official current favourite personness" but this one can be kept:

The problem with their pellet pockets is that they're made of Delrin. The original pockets were made of a cellulosic plastic very similar to celluloid, and they were fused onto the plunger shaft. You can't fuse Delrin. I'll stick with making pockets out of Paper Mate ink-stick nosecones; that material will fuse to the celluloid.

Richard, with what you just said, does this mean that you have a way of providing us with a way of making these units? ie; On your site is there a program for showing us how to make these units ourselves?

Looking forward to your response,

Mike

What would be your material of choice to have them made from? I've been making Delrin cups for a long time and have never had the bond to one fail. I'm also convinced that Parker must have made these from scrap as I have seen some that were made from some material that smells like rubber.

At this time I don't have anything on my site showing how to make them. But if you have a lathe it's not difficult.

Celluloid would be my choice. It can be fused to the shaft, the way Parker did it, and it can also be reshaped if damaged by such abuse as having the pellet popped out with a dental pick. <shudder>

Our move is finished, and successfully, thank goodness. So long to the GoDaddy slowness!

And I've put them back up in the classifieds...

How have you been bonding them to the shaft? epoxy?

Sensitive Pen Restoration doesn't cost extra.
