I found it interesting that the swabs faded before the dip samples.

Highlighters do not make it!

This is the last installment of this experiment. Enjoy and let me know what you think!

As you can see, the regular ball point pens did not hold up as well as I had hoped.

Well done experiments!

Pilot Precise V5 (purple, only purple) used to be my go-to pen.

According to Staples.com, it is supposed to be fadeproof and water resistant.

You just proved that it is not fadeproof, probably not even fade resistant.

And I learned, the hard way, that it is not water resistant. There was no resisting at all. My purple gel ink embraced the water droplets, mingled with it like two lovers, then together rolled right off my notebook!

This is mighty!

Now we need someone to post "I've used fading inks for 94 years. Why would anyone need a fade-proofed ink?" :roflmho:

I'm amazed at how well Black Swan in Australian Roses has held up and rather disappointed in North African Violet (those two, plus Kung Te Cheng, which really is incredibly amazing) are probably my favorite inks in the purple family (although I would put KTC more into the "indigo" category, myself).

Thanks for keeping us updated on your progress. It's been an enlightening thread (no pun intended) to say the least....

So, I was asked if these experiments changed my ink usage. YES. YES.

I have given away colors that fade. While I am more tolerant of water messes, I have less control over the light in my environment than I thought. I have come across my notebooks and found the notes unreadable. Not to mention that at our plant nursery the sun, water and dirt destroy most inks.

However, I also found that if the ink is super high maintenance, I don't enjoy it as much. So I like clear obnoxious inks that are water resistant, fade proof and low maintenance. I don't ask for a lot. roflmho.gif

Midway Blue now makes my list of must have inks.

Thank you for these tests! I'm trying to find lovely, reliable inks for journaling and your ink test threads have helped so much. I really appreciate them, and am definitely going to buy some of the Noodler's inks.

I'm always surprised by the needs people have for inks lol

I would tend to agree, but after seeing how badly some writing with Lamy Blue (from cartridges) faded in journals that were only a couple years old and were kept closed and out of direct sunlight, I began to take a greater interest in inks with more permanence and lightfastness.

I've been asked what I did with the samples from last year's experiments. I put them into a notebook. The notebook has traveled this year between the czars as they updated the spreadsheet. This thread is one of the two that I did last year that show the effect of fading in short periods. The exhaustive experiments have run 3 months (and may run longer).
