Has anyone tried these Jinhao Century pens?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JINHAO-Century-Celluloid-Fountain-Pen-M-Nib-Marble-/230642728940?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35b360bfec

They look a bit like a homage to Parker Duofolds.

I was wondering what size they are & what they are like. The pen in that link is one of several being described as 'Celluloid' or 'Century' pens, and they all appear to have the same proportions as a Duofold International, though the various sellers can't seem to agree on their dimensions.

As a side note, I wonder if they are a prelude to another high status pen being faked. If Jinhao can make a homage to the Duofold, then there will probably be less scrupulous manufacturers making direct copies.

Regards,

Richard.

I've had one for a few weeks and am quite happy with it. Mine looks just like this, but I bought mine from comeon1788 and it's a J99 model. Its definitely lighter than most Jinhaos, but not as light as my Phileas. Unposted its the same length as the Phileas, 4 7/8. Posted its 6 5/8, but a little heavy. It writes well, but is a little finer than the Phileas medium. IN my opinion, Jinhao builds a good product, especially in this price range. My first fountain pen, 3 months ago, was the Jinhao Dragon's Offspring, so you can see I'm happy with the quality.

I bought it because of the Parker Duofold looks. Not quite the same, but very nice.

Regards,

Dennis

I actually just bought this one because I like the way it looks. I'll see how it writes in a week or so... Kind of a novelty pen if nothing else, and you sure can beat the price...

The isellpens website has a photo of a duofold next to a Jinhao pen. The size and appearance seem pretty similar to me.

Shadowsforbars, the only one I could find was a Duofold next to a Kaigelu, and they do look astonishingly like the Duofolds. Definitely worth considering in the future.

Waterman1924 - I've come very close to buying the same pen myself. What's the balance like, how comfortable & how heavy is it? These have been questions that have put me off. If the pen body is over 30g I really don't want to use it, but it could be considered a novelty desk pen.

Wineguy, thanks for what you said. I'll tale a look at comeon1988's site. I doubt if I'll buy from him again, as after the last time I bought a pen from him he sent me the address of his website that sells only fakes (MB, Dupont, Parker etc) and it's not something I'm willing to countenance.

KrazyIvan, I realise it's not celluloid. I have made a pen myself from one of the other materials being sold as 'celluloid', and it's definitely plastic. However, it's almost as pretty as celluloid, so I'm willing to live with the description.

Richard.

They look good. Wonder how they write.

Fountain pens aren't a collection, it's an insatiable obsession!

I don't have that model, but I picked up a Jinhao "Libai" pen a couple months ago, and the nib is quite nice, a very smooth (generous) medium line. No flow problems, and I'm even using J. Herbin Rouge Hematite in it, which can be a bitchy ink at times.

The cost of many of these Chinese pens are so low, I cringe. In fact, this is the only one I own - every time I look at it, I wonder what sweatshop conditions it was made under.

I did not receive the pen as of yet but will post some information on it when I do. I would think it's a hefty pen to say the least but I don't mind that in a pen for quick home use...

My mistake. I am too impulsive by half; l must learn to check my facts before posting.

For what it's worth, that Kaigelu is an excellent pen.

The Jinhao's I've had so far write remarkably well. The Jinhao 321 I rate as the best hooded nib pen I have come across outside the Parker 51 & 61 ranges. The Jinhao 1200 I have is a very heavy pen, but does write well for its cost. I have tweaked the nib to improve flow and it is a very good pen.

+1. My X450 is very smooth and is partly responsible for my enjoyment of broader nibs. I really did not like anything above an F. I am coming around. :D
