Pilot Demonstrator

Having compared the pen with the pictures of the 78G from Hisnibs.com, they're exactly the same (the feed, the cap bands and all) but since I have not been able to find any official mention of this being the 78G Demonstrator, I'll just continue to call it the Pilot Demonstrator. If you're a fan of the 78G range, I have no doubt you'll love this version !

 

I purchased this wonderfully simple and sleek fountain pen for under $30 shipped from fellow FPN member "rubyeyespenlover" a while back and have been using it ever since.

A lightweight fountain pen that's both durable and pleasing to the eyes (at least to a demonstrator fan like myself)

I'm sure several owners of this affordable fountain pen have already converted theirs into EDs but I'm happy with mine being just the way it is seen here fitted with a Waterman's cartridge (with more room for ink versus the regular international sized cartridge it came with). I welcome any additional pictures and feedback of the converted versions if anyone has any to share.

I had a few inks filled into this pen since I first got it and for now I've settled with Pilot's Blue Black which provides me with that extra little wetness in the lines which I prefer.

(At the time this picture was taken, it was still filled with Waterman's Blue-Black)

 

Fitted with a gold plated nib marked "M", it lays down a nice wet fine-medium line that's just a pleasure to use. I'm sure if one prefers, a nib swap can be made with the wider range of nibs from the 78G series.

My advise ? If you ever come across this being put for sale, don't hesitate to jump on this and get it !

A wonderful all round daily workhorse.

I have 2 similar pens from Speerbob. I think he referred to them as Pilot Crystals. However, I say similar because the cap on mine is more rounded and snaps on instead of screwing on. The one posted here is definitely a 78G.

I bought one of the Pilot Crystal pens on Ebay for about $11.00. It is the more rounded cap demonstrator, and the other end is rounded, and shows threads. The nib is gold washed, not as finished, and has less writing on it. It came with a squeeze converter, and a scratchy fine nib, that I made into a stub.

 

This one looks better, more finished.

Is the pen a snap type cap or screw type? I don't like the screw type, which was what turned me off the 78g, whose nib I thoroughly enjoyed.

It's a screw on cap mooshisho - a small detail if the nib performance is excellent.

Hi, Mine are the Pilot Crystal. I sell them on eBay for $13.00 and have the clear with either chrome or gold trim as well as a clear blue and clear red version. They a not the same pen as this, a slighly different design. Cheers, BOB

Hey wait! You mean you can use Waterman or international cartridges with this pen? Not just Pilot carts? Is this true of other Pilots too? The cartridges look so different...

This one fits international carts and since Waterman carts are similar, they fit right in there.

The pilot carts will not fit this pen as the um..opening (top part of the cart) is too wide (somehow I dont think I'm explaining this right).

I've always prefered screwed on caps myself - more reliable than snap on caps in my opinion. I have a few (RBs and BPs) pens with snap on caps that dont "click" anymore..and some that do, are still loose..

Love the nib on Pilot Plumix.. (especially the F, which has slight flex, is italic)

but the No-clip squid shape makes this less than desirable for daily work pen - need quick access via clip to sweater/blouse.

Is there a Pilot with this great nib, takes the larger cartridge? and has a clip? need to clip to my work sweater/blouse - a few variants seem to be in discussion here.

cost is also a factor. a demonstrator would be nice, but the essentials are as above.

currently using Varsity/Safari as my always-reliables. miss the fun Plumix nib.

Hello p2p - I believe that the 78G will be something you're looking for with their various nib sizes. Last I checked, Norman has some available at hisnibs.com.
