Eagle Blue Black Ink

I was very fortunate to have won this recent EBay sale. The box boldly states this is "The Best [ink] In The World" !!! How's that for an advertising slogan? I don't know how old this box is, but it contains 6 bottles that each are to be mixed with a quart of water. That's 1.5 gallons of ink in total--and the price for the box at the time was $2.50 !!! It also says on top: "A Savings Of 300% On Your Ink Bills." LOL! Man, those were the days. The seller obtained this from an estate sale of a writer/author who worked for the Wall Street Journal. All 6 bottles are completely full, and have a cork resting on top of the blue-black dye powder.

I just had to mix some up...but tempered my anticipation, thinking it was likely some cheap brand, or deteriorated dye....or that someone may have refilled the bottles with dirt. Well, I could not have been more stunned at the result. This made the most breathtakingly beautiful blue-black color I think I have ever seen....and I have at least 15-20 BB inks. Plus, if you want it darker, you can add more dye powder to your heart's content. The writing tablet sample below had less than a bb pellet amount or powder added to a 5 ml sample vial. It is also extremely water resistant....not bulletproof...but very durable even after a 30 second rinse. The 2nd row, left scanned image is extremely accurate on my monitor with how this ink looks in person. The others were with camera flash, and ink color not as accurate.

I feel like I have died and gone to Ink Heaven. :cloud9:

Is there a colour change as the ink dries?

I just looked at it now, and it is the same as original.

I would be amazed if there is more out there. I can't find anything on Google about this Eagle Ink Co. of New York City. Imagine at some point in the past, 1.5 gallons sold for $2.50 !!!!!!!!!

Greetings Sam,

That is a beautiful blue-black color- dang near perfect! I wish I could think of a current ink color that duplicated it. :hmm1:

All the best,

Sean :)

Looks very much like Noodler's Manhattan Blue to me (Art Brown exclusive), currently my favorite BB ink. Very nice find!

Sweet! How much fun is that, you can mix up your own ink and make it just like you like it! Great find.

Well remember that "one little jar" makes 32 big ounces of ink (almost a Liter).

I have too much ink! However this is a really nice blue black, but 32 oz of ink, I could re-sell the surplus......
