149 Demonstrator pictures

Yesterday, Esov created a thread on his newly acquired 146 demonstrator.

 

My contribution today shows my newly acquired demonstrator. It is a 149, but it is not totally clear. It has the black turning knob and cap. My demonstrator has seen use:

These pictures are after three or four hours where it was left soaking and flushed many times. There is still a pretty a pretty good amount of ink visible:

Now I can understand why my pen is not fully flushed even when I see a clear inkwell:

This is after a night of soaking and some aggressive flushing. The ink is not totally gone, but it was close enough:

I like the nib. If you ever want to get rid of the "pink" and have a better seal, let me know.

Congratulations Sean, for the new acquisition! It's not everyday for us to see a montblanc demo. Must cost you a bomb to get this pen.

Amazing shots, Sean. Thanks for the education. I've seen a couple of Gary Lehrer's demos, and yours is among the nicest. How does your "old" nib fit the "newer" feed? Seems perfect. Have seen pots and pots of the "pink bubblegum" at MB repairmen's workbenches. Eric, do you use mutton tallow which is colorless? Also, thanks for the great 146 demo shots. Forget whom to thank. Both sets of shots contribute considerably to our knowledge of the 140 models. Thanks again.

Are full demo 149's, like the 146 we saw earlier, known to exist?

What a stunning pen. It looks remarkably clean, and the piston looks new.

Do all 149s have the sealant, and is removing the feed and re-sealing a job only for a professional? Looking at the piston on this demonstrator, I wonder why a solid silicon gasket/washer or O-ring system wasn't used to seal the feed/section, instead of what appears to be a malleable paste. The piston head, which moves, as well as seals, is doing a perfect job in this beautiful pen.

Thank you Multiechelon, Sean, for the enlightening photos. It's interesting to see how the gold cap rings are held in place, and what a gorgeous nib.

Yes, unless they have been opened by a "non MB" pen technician, in such cases the sealant used can be different.

Not necessarily, any DIYer with the proper tools can service the pen, but one has to be really careful since replacement parts are hard to source. YMMV
