The second ink for tonight is Rohrer & Klingner: Sepia. I received a vial of this wonderful ink from Jared. The Diamine Midnight is slated for next week, Jared. :)

As always, thanks for a solid review.

I would love to see a side by side with Herbin Cacao du Bresil. My search Fu won't yeild one up on FPN. Has anyone seen the two side by side?

Ryan.

+1 for that. I've always wondered. Well, for a long time anyway.

Great review. I am very interested in writing dark brown inks in broad nibs. I use Waterman Havanna and Diamine Chocolate Brown, both great, and looking for comparable ink review written with broad nibs.

Thanks for the great review. This is a brown ink I'll have to try. Thanks, again.

One of my favorite inks. Well-behaved. Distinctive color yet professional looking.

I have tried many brown inks, and finally found my favorite--R&K Sepia. Too bad that it's not more widely available in the US.

Another steamy review, Signum...

(she says as she fans herself...)

I like the color R&K has chosen to call Sepia... amazing how the color can be so different in interpretation from brand-to-brand. This one is rather like a Van Dyck sort of brown. On my monitor, it looks a bit similar to Noodler's Kiowa Pecan. Do you know if they compare closely?

I also find the Diamine sample in a broad nib attractive (although to me it stretches the concept of calling it "Sepia" quite a bit).

Alas, I'm afraid I'm going to have to break down soon and make an ink purchase...

On my monitor, the sample of Kiowa Pecan I have looks more like a slightly darker version of the Diamine Sepia than the R&K Sepia. The R&K has no orange or reddish tones in it. Grayed neutral brown with perhaps in some light the faintest hint of purple (much less than say Waterman Havana) would be my description. It and Noodler's Walnut are my standard browns. Highly recommended.

Thanks Sholom for the comparison to Kiowa Brown. I do have that color and use it regularly, and yes, it does have a golden-brown element to it.

Thanks for describing the R&K Sepia as a more neutral tone by comparison. It helps me better visualize the color to determine if it's going to be on my list of future purposes!

Cheers!

Please take note of this message by the manufacture:

You can mix different inks together

to create new tones or shades.

The color Sepia should be used

exclusively for blending, if this is

used immediately. Consequently,

the fountain pen (provided one is

used) must be cleaned right after

use.

The remark you copied above is from this R & K Link.

R & K sells many lines of ink. I suspect the above comment directed toward their Drawing Inks.

My bottle states the Sepia is for fountain pen use and from Writing Inks link.

My observation of the Sepia in my Pelikan 400 is that the ink is slow to start. After being left for a few weeks I change the ink and cleaned the pen. There was no noticeable stains or problems.

That statement, which confused me, was the subject of a thread that I started HERE.

German-speaking members kindly re-translated the statement to English and it seems to mean that if Sepia is mixed with another ink, the mixture should be used up quickly--presumably some adverse reaction would eventually occur. The message I got was: don't mix Sepia!

You can go to Goulet Pen Co.'s Interactive Tool on their Swab Shop -- http://www.gouletpens.com/Articles.asp?ID=144 -- and select both colors to see swabs compared side by side.

Thanks. I have already done that at http://www.thewritingdesk.co.uk/inkchooser.php. I was looking for a user review. But I am impatient; so have already ordered R&K sepia. :-)
