Thistle Ink Powder

Last evening I mixed up 10 oz's of blue/black ink using the Thistle Ink Powder that was available on ebay a few months ago. This was my first attempt at the mixing and I used the 1/3 amount of water to powder recipe recommended in another thread on the topic.

First - that is some powerful dye. All it takes is a tiny spec and you have blue all over the place. Fortunately, I had plenty of newspaper covering the kitchen counter - otherwise I could have been in big trouble.

The ink itself is a nice color that reminds me a of vintage Quink blue/black in it's shading capability. I put ~2 oz in an old Skrip bottle and then added 50 drops of Pelikan Brilliant Brown to deepen the color. So far, so good.

I should have enough ink to last my lifetime and way beyond as I bought more than a few packets of the stuff. It will be fun to play with.

May we live, not by our fears but by our hopes; not by our words but by our deeds; not by our disappointments but by our dreams.

It definitely does get everywhere. I was finding ink everywhere for a couple days after I has done. Make sure to mop the floor.

Yes, it's pretty amazing how potent this vintage ink stuff is. I bought three packets and so far mixed one using the proportions you described.

I gotta say, this ink is my favorite as far as shading goes. Very vintage looking.
