Edited by moderator for clarification...Please note: Pelikan doesn't sell their 4001 fountain pen inks as waterproof inks (though they do make waterproof inks, but not for fountain pens.) The comments in this review regarding waterproofness are the experience of the reviewer based on his method of testing.

Here's one of my favourite inks under the Pelikan banner. Enjoy. :)

Thank you for the very nice review! I, too, enjoy using Pelikan violet.

May you have pens you enjoy, with plenty of paper and ink. :)

Please use only my FPN name "Gran" in your posts. Thanks very much!

I very much like the way you give examples of different nib - and the inks do show up differently with each nib, Tnx and keep up the good work

I, too, have to jump in and say how wonderful this Pelikan color has turned out to be.

I just happened to end up with some; receiving it with a purple Pelikano "school" pen, of all things. I'm grateful the ink was included because I may not have bought it otherwise. I order it now because I have used it in full range of pens - from $5 to $400 pens - many types of nibs, quite a few paper types and it is a consistent ink.

Glad to encounter Signum1's review (well done, as usual!) because I feel that this color Pelikan ink would more than likely be overlooked by many.

Good review! The colour seems very similar to Waterman's Purple which I've used for many years.

I like the color very much. It is very similar in color to the Lamy cart-only Violet. Very well behaved.

Cool handwriting!

Although I'm not a huge fan of purples, I do like this one. It reminds me of a 'fruity' purple, rather than a regal or royal purple (if you know what I mean). I agree with Joe in Seattle's comment about it being similar to Watermans, which it is, but is perhaps a touch more on the red side. (Perhaps this is where the fruitiness comes from!)

I unfortunately can not use your review in that is too wide. There were a couple of others that are too wide on the threads too.

I can not get them to copy to Word....perhaps my fault.

All I can get is a sense of the color but not your nitti gritti.

As a noobi I need all the clear help I can get.

Sorry.

Bo Bo Olson,

The new forum has change some of the coding which used to adjust my scanned image (by reducing the image size) to fit the reader's monitor. If you have the computer skills, then you can saved the image from my reviews and use photo shop or an online image resizing services.

Now if you cannot read my half-uncial script, then you can view the Pelikan 4001 Violet ink reviews by the following FPN members.

I discovered that 9/10s through the 26 pages, that I viewed today.

I am a three ink noobie.

I was looking for German made inks. In that I live in Germany and was totally ignorant. Now I'm confused, which is almost like knowing which pocket the coin is in to flip. That is much better than the condition I was in when I started.

I made up three large files on everyone's work.

I am now going back to Copy Image on those too big.

If any one has any influence with a Moderator, perhaps a small sticky could be made. It is rather awkward saying that is a fine looking ink, and not knowing it smears six days later.

I made the major mistake of not copying everyone's name. So it will be a bit longer to repair my attempts at copying.

I do thank everyone for their fine efforts.

My mother is dancing in her grave and laughing until tears flow. I am learning how to write legibly , a most unexpected development.

I have a calligraphy book and some Osmirod Calligraphy nibs....Well I'm up to D.

I do admire your skill.

Thank you for your efforts.I also use Pelikan Violet with M800 Demonstrator. I really like this color.

But I think this ink has no water- resisting qualities.

I soaked the Pelikan 4001 Violet ink in water a few days ago and much of the ink faded away. I stand corrected on the waterproof properties of this Pelikan 4001 Violet. the method I used for this review was a swab with water.

I love Pelikan Violet, it's just so purple. I've looked at lots of reviews for purples, but they just aren't that rich purple I'm looking for. It looks great with my medium nib Waterman Audace

I've got to stop bumping into your reviews!

Nice work here, a vibrant purple... and half-uncial to boot! Ooo la la!

Honestly, I think a nice broad italic nib, with good penmanship shows off many colors to their best advantage. Thanks for going to the efforts for your reviews here.

I know there's more to an ink besides just the color, and that becomes very apparent with finicky pens, fine nibs and various papers. Yet, what would playing with the pens be, without attractive colors?

Ok, I suppose it would be just writing, which is fine as well lol.

Thanks again and sending some Holiday Cheer your way!

I have this ink and find it fades badly in sunlight. Not for use posting reminders around the house. It turns a pinkish lavender color. Its still legible, just not purple.

On the basis that a picture is worth a thousand words:

It looks a little more legible in real life: you can clearly distinguish pale lines that have not lost their definition. But 'pale' being a key word :)

I am no longer very active on FPN but feel free to message me. Or send me a postal letter!
