What was delivered unexpectedly on Saturday morning
Australia Post does not deliver in my neighbourhood on weekends, so I was quite surprised to receive not just one, but three, separate packages (for three orders) on Saturday morning.
The order with the Admok pens and parts was much delayed. I was not thrilled that the seller (which, for the avoidance of doubt, is not the Admok Official Store on Taobao) didn't action my order for ten days, then marked it as packed and awaiting collection by the courier just before the dispatch window was set to expire and the order automatically refunded, upon which I could no longer cancel the order from my end; and only when another two days have passed did he contact to me tell me there is no stock of the silver-trimmed pens. I refused to accept gold-trimmed models as a substitute, especially when I didn't really want to get the Kodachi grind on an M nib on the Peacock Blue, but grit my teeth and paid more for it because the stock F nib wasn't available at the time of ordering for the silver-trimmed variant. It took another fourteen days, and chasing on my part, before the seller reported that the silver-trimmed pens I ordered had come in and were ready to be packed.
Whereas the order with WeTone was quickly dispatched and well-packed; the parcel's corrugated cardboard box was damaged in transit, but the contents were OK under three layers of bubble wrap.
Ordering the line width measurement overlays were the result of seeing this post not a fortnight ago. Searching for “crack width ruler” on Amazon.com.au pulled up some listings that asked for far more than I was prepared to pay for such a tool, but looking further I found these at an OK price (per unit averaged over the five-pack). When they arrived in a tiny padded envelope, I was bemused; it felt as if there was nothing inside the envelope. The items have seemingly less thickness and stiffness than 35mm film for cameras. Going back to the listing, which has “High Precision SEC Size Estimation Chart 8cm 0.5mm Transparency Flaw Detection Film Ruler” in the title, only now did I spot the inconsistent detail in the text of the listing:
QuoteSize - Total Size: 95x60mm/3.7"x2.36"(L*W); Thickness: 0.12mm/0.005".
and 0.12mm is approximately what my callipers tell me; the thickness of the stack of five came to 0.59mm. I haven't quite decided whether to complain to Amazon about it; I'm sure the film can deliver the utility of measuring line width, but I was expecting five pieces of much stiffer, 0.5mm-thick piece of highly transparent plastic. I could be flossing between the tines of a nib with what was sent!
Grrrr.
