Pelikan M400 - early 1980s nib.jpeg

Important Correction:

This nib is not from the early 1980s; it is from the early 1990s!

 

I had not only mis-remembered the chronological distinction between nibs that have a ‘large gap’ between the Pelikan logo and their nib-grade stamp (i.e. the early M400 nibs) and the nibs that have a ‘small gap’ between the Pelikan logo and their nib-grade stamp (i.e. the later nibs), and got that distinction the wrong way round…

 

…I had also disregarded the bleedin’ obvious fact that the cap band on my M400 in Brown Tortoiseshell finish is inscribed ‘PELIKAN GERMANY’, and not ‘PELIKAN W.-GERMANY’!

 

The re-unification of Germany - which I am old enough to remember - happened in 1991, with a few pens with old-stock ‘W.-GERMANY’ stamps still sold into early 1992.
My pen therefore dates to no earlier than late 1991 or early 1992.

It was, unquestionably, produced some time between 1991 and 1997!
