Penguincollector Posted August 19, 2022 Mitsubishi is everywhere, it seems. I need to take a look at this Sailor Hoscal line, totally up my alley. Link to comment

Even though they share a name and logo, this Mitsubishi is not affiliated with the mega-huge company that makes cars, nuclear power plants, and many, many other things. The Hoscal is one of my favorites. If you don't mind a thin pen you will probably love it. Link to comment
Penguincollector Posted August 19, 2022 I looove thin pens, I think the next pen will be a Chalana of some sort for sure. I have a slim candy that is so precious. Is this the pencil company Mitsubishi? I thought at one point, they were all part of one big zaibatsu, but I’m a Asian American that is rather ignorant of how things work on the other side of the world. Link to comment

I'm a Jewish-American in Asia. Are you referring to the Sailor Candy? If so, the Hoscal is significantly thinner and the Chalana is much, much thinner - like *super* thin and has a uniquely sized cartridge/converter. Link to comment

No, the slim candy takes a Chalana cartridge or converter. Here’s the Slim next to a Clear Candy and a Candy based Sanrio pen.( forgive the ink stains on my pen towel). Not sure when they were made. I wasn't even aware of the slim Candy or even that there are demonstrator versions of the regular size. Very cool! Link to comment
Penguincollector Posted August 22, 2022 I only found out about the slim because I was looking for another section and nib in case the one on the Badtz-Maru pen broke- it has either a hairline crack or a crease of sorts in the section. I bought the slim because it was listed as a clear candy and I was hoping the section would fit my pen. When it got here I was overwhelmed by how cute and tiny it is.None of the sections fit though, the threads are different- although I can switch the cap with Badtz on it onto the larger clear ones if necessary. I think the slim is from the 1970s. Link to comment
Penguincollector Posted August 23, 2022 So I gave into temptation and snapped up this little one for $30 with postage. You penabler, you 😆 Link to comment
PithyProlix Posted August 24, 2022 Nice! Take a look here: http://www.jwima.org/mannehitsu_web/01rekishi/rekishi_nenphou.html Sailor released the Candy in 1976 and the Chalana in 1979. Nothing definitive about the slim Candy but it might be suggestive of a time frame. Link to comment
Penguincollector Posted August 25, 2022 That timeline is super cool, thanks for passing that along! The only thing that I have seen online about it points to early 1980s, the slim pen heyday. Link to comment
PithyProlix Posted August 25, 2022 I want to state - for the record - that I did not bring up the Chalana. That purchase is on you, alone. 😅 Link to comment
Penguincollector Posted August 25, 2022 😂 you’re right, all me! I actually have no idea if it’s actually a Chalana, as the seller didn’t know much about it. I hope it is, but even if it’s not, I love 14k nibs and slim silhouettes for pens so it will get a ton of use. Link to comment
Penguincollector Posted August 25, 2022 It just got here, and it totally is a Chalana, complete with a very old cartridge that I had to soak to remove. Currently cleaning it up. 😍 Link to comment
