Boston Brahmin Blue

Here's a picture of Boston Brahmin Blue ink I linked from the New England pen show site:

This is the first I've heard of the ink. Can anyone who's seen it or used it comment on it? I think it looks very nice, maybe a bit like Diamine royal blue.

That is nice....

OK ..... Who's going to the show and willing to pick up a couple of bottles for me and send it to MD (pretty please) .... that is sweet looking blue... is it as deep and saturated as the pic looks.. looks like some great shading there also...

The only shame is that it is only in 1oz bottles....

I could be wrong, Tom, but I think that it was only made for sale at the NE Pen Show. Probably available on the secondary market, though. Also, try Sam at pendemonium. They often buy out what remains of a limited ink at the show.

Roger, the show is in April.... so hopefully someone is willing to do it...

IIRC the Boston Brahmin was only produced for the 2005 New England show. Pendemonium did buy up the remaining bottles.

I have no idea if Mr. Tardif has plans to reissue the ink for 2006.

Cheers,

edit: ah, well, if I had followed the link to the show, I would have seen that it is indeed being reissued. Cool!

The Illustrator and Calligrapher that did the label on the bottle is quite amazing; "Pier Gustafson".

Any Calligraphy or Pen and Ink fan should look at the work on his website. Inspirational.

Tom,

As of right now, it looks like the wife and I will be going to the Boston show. Once I finalize my plans, I will let you know.

I was under the impression that Boston Brahmin was an eternal ink, but the blurb only mentions "extra feathering resistance". Anyone remember if it's waterproof, etc.?

Get ready for a NEW Limited Edition Noodler's "Boston Brahmin Blue", specially bottled for the 2006 show! Specially formulated for extra feathering-resistance, and featuring an absolutely unique color, 'Boston Brahmin Blue' was introduced at the 2005 New England Pen Show. The one-ounce bottles boasted a label designed by Boston artist and calligrapher Pier Gustafson. This year's show will have its own version of Boston Brahmin Blue, for sale in one-ounce bottles for $8.

What does it mean that they will have their own version of Boston Brahmin Blue for $8/oz? Maybe, if someone will pick some up for us, we will need a bottle of both.

The 2005 Boston Brahmin blue is indeed a vibrant color. I have found that it looks dramatically different from an extra-fine nib (more turquoise) than a medium nib (much less green, much more emphatically BLUE, almost cobalt). I wasn't thrilled by it at first, but it's grown on me.

Wow Noodlers is doing another limited edition ink.

That's interesting but I'll let interested readers find the thread why that is so darn interesting.

It's interesting because it happens so rarely. In fact, Boston Brahmin is the only special edition Noodler's ever, IIRC. Sure, there are a growing number of special interest (polar, lubricating, invisible), or limited production inks ("luxury") inks, but those are available all year around. B.B. is the only one that's made once a year, for a pen show -- and before now we had no idea if last year was a one-time deal. Now we know it's not; that's news. (Whether it becomes an always-available color, a la DC Supershow, will depend on demand, I suppose.)

Now if the word was that Nathan has come out with another unusual, innovative, off-the-wall, gorgeous-looking, Armageddon-proof ink, I'd say ho-hum, yawn, happens all the time. ;) But this is different.

Just thought I'd save everyone the trouble of looking it up.... :o

Hey...

I live here (Greater Boston)...I'll be there. I'd be glad to pick up some ink to send out. The only thing is that I'm not sure if there is a purchase limit (this will be my first pen show).

I also will be going to the show.

I recently attended a meeting of the Boston Pen Club in Pier's studio, an amazing place. His calligraphy is amazing.
