Sailor Hoscal Nib Size?

Torts

Recommended Posts

I have a Sailor Hoscal and the nib markings are new to me. Not like my modern Sailors. This nib has 14K on top, Sailor written under, a circle with a wavy line thru it under "Sailor", followed by the number 2 on the last line, then at the base of the nib the number 211 shows up. It seems to write like a fine but I'm not sure. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Interpretation:

"circle with a wavy line thru it": JIS mark. JIS is Japan Industrial Standard meaning it meets government quality standards.

"2": Sailor nib sizes are designated 1: Very Fine, 2: Fine, 3: Medium, 4: Broad. Sizes are close to one size less than Western pens. I've seen a 6 (largest size?) that seems slightly smaller than a Western BROAD.

Have never figured out what the other numbers like 211 might mean.

PS: The Hoscal series are nice pens and can make an interesting collection.

Actually nib sizes are 1 EF「極細」2 F「細字」3 MF「中細」4 M「中字」6 B「太字」7 Zoom 9 Music. I though 4 was broad until a friend who worked at Sailor kindly corrected me.

I do not know what the three digit number is.

Thank you Stan and Dillo

I appreciate the information. After a thorough cleaning the pen is writing very nicely.

Hi,

Do you still have the hoscal? I just got mine last month, it is all black with gold accents, and the nib says 2 sailor jis 14kt and the 3 digits say 104, I would assume it to be indicating the 104th pen made I assume this only.

Greetings! Two questions on this post, if I may.

1. There was a 24k nib made by Sailor about 2 decades ago, and I have been searching for it, but Im not sure if it is a hoscal series, or a mini series. Can anyone here clarify?

2. Who is Stan? I think he is an administrator or such alike, but I dont know. I ask because maybe he might help me in this search for my crazy 24k nib Sailor pen.

Thanks!

Hi. I'm stan. The "or such alike." Yes. Sailor made a 24K nib. They were competing with Platinum who made a 23K nib. I sold several years ago.

Do not remember it being a Hoscal. I have several thousand photos of Japanese pens in file on other computer. Will see if I can find and post photo. No guarantee as poorly organized.

Do you maybe know about one being a 'Mini'? Yes, a Sailor 24k Mini to be exact.

Nice to meet you and to know who you are! I hope to be able to learn a lot from you!

Well, there is one on yahoo auctions right now if you are looking to buy one. Not talking about the closed one I linked earlier, and its not the mini you seem to want.
