What's the pen second from the left? With the brownish barrel.

If more Chinese pens were simpler in design and without all the ornamentation and metal, I'd surely have a larger collection. At this point only Hero and Wing-Sung can consistently attract me, and that's because they're imitations!

That's a good selection! I only have a few Chinese pens (Hero 616s and 329s) but I like them a lot...

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of nothing at all...

I would get more Jinhao pens- the nibs are amazing... if it weren't for the "blingy" factor of their designs. I'm a real Bauhaus kinda guy.

The Red Army March pen is one of Jinhao's more conservative designed pens, and probably one of the best nibs I have!

I agree. This pen is the Jinhao equivalent of Sailor's Professional Gear.

Now, if only they made a version with a plain cap and a lighter (plastic?) barrel... :cloud9:

Does anybody have an email address for Jinhao management? Perhaps if enough of us wrote to them, they might be able to make a such a version.

Perhaps this could become the FPN Entry Level pen, not to compete with the other, more expensive, FPN LE pens.

Jinhao contact

Browsing their product list, I see that 101, 102 are relatively simple looking. I think they're still metal though. I wonder why they don't list all their products.

goldquills.com was listing the baoer "skywalker" look alike as a jinhao... and that's a good pen!!!

A good collection indeed. Gotta be careful - I think you are staining the linen with one of your pen.

I notice that you have use all of them and which one is your favourite? Do you fill them with different ink?

Enjoy your collection.

whats imitation man ?

there are hundreds of models u cant even think of.

after all,

a pen is a pen

it either writes or do not.

I havent used a scheffer or waterman or pelican or sailor or pilot(except v pen and one made in burma) and parker(except 45)

only test wrote lamy

havent got any major brand pens the world is obsessed with

I just wonder whats the diff beteween the writing with a good chinese pen and any one of the above

both will feel perhaps the same in a good paper

what are the specialities of a good pen?

brand? price? flow? smoothness? flexibility of nib? body material ?bodywork ?durability ? or "all of these"?

what are the features we are attracted to mostly?

ask anyone, and see that we all are confused.

for instance ,take lamy safary-------

a baoer or hero or any other brand has a body of metal or resin, far better that that abs plastic

it may have a iridium or gold plated or even a steel nib,and it will write perhaps far better.

still most of we will(including me) go for it and perhaps all have one in their collection, though these world renowned pens cost thrice, four ,may be ten times.

thats some brainwashing.Brand name comes after that............hehe.

anyway ,heard scheffer had moved its pen factory to china,so i think i will get one of them in near future as cheap as i get chinese pens now, lol.

Hmm?

Well, I prefer plastic over metal, because it's lighter. All of the qualities you list influence one's decision. The Chinese pens easily win in price, and in China they win in brand. Flow, smoothness, flexibility, and body material is all subjectively evaluated. Where the Chinese pens lose is in craftsmanship and durability. Also, some people are just unreasonably Sinophobic and that's that.

  • 4 years later...

I think Chinese pens are unnecessarily berated. Had the same $ 5 pens were priced at $ 150, and "limited number" editions produced people would have swooned all over !

Anyway, pens are a personal choice. I have Indian FPs, Chinese FPs, European FPs, and Made in USA FPs, and while I may not like a feature here or there, I find them to be equally good writers. Though I must admit, in general, I have found German made nibs to be the best.

I put my savings to test

Lamy & Pilot FPs the Best

No more I even think of the rest

(Preference Fine and Extra Fine Nibs)

Pen is meant for writing - not for looking :-)

Very nice collection. I have mainly all Chinese pens too, about 18. I like the more conservative designs too & that is bit harder to find. They are good writers as well & a better value (IMO) bcuz if you are careful you can get a $6 pen that writes as good as any MB out there.

Over time, more and more Chinese pens have ended up in my collection. Jinhao is probably my favorite Chinese pen company, but I also have several models each by Haolilai, Duke, and Hero. I also have one or two Baoer, Bookworm, Guanleming, Kaigelu, Luoshi, and Wing Sung.

Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.

I'd say Hero, followed by...everything else, though I own Dukes, Jinhaos, Kaigelus, Haolilais, one Guiguan, and a few other brands.

i usually have one or more Hero 616s inked and ready.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.
