Civil War Penmanship

Dear Members of The Fountain Pen Network;

I wish to present copies of scanned documents from the Civil War era.

I have attempted to scan and alter the originals that were Xeroxed poorly; supplied by the USMC for my research of the Batallion of US Marines that fought at First Bull Run/First Manassas.

I hope to also include a document by Mr. Edward S. Dana; an acquaintance of Second Lieutenant Robert Hitchock who perished on the bloody battlefield of First Bull Run.

The focus though is on the penmanship. Being new to the loading of documents, I may have to do many separate uploads however, the lettering of the muster rolls is very interesting; as it gives the benefit of the alphabetical order and lettering.

Documents are copyrighted but, permission to share by the Commandant of the USMC.

Respectfully,

Maria

Thanks for sharing! I thought I would add a little to the discussion. These are excerpts from a letter to my Great Grandfather from his future Uncle-in-law, written in 1866 from a former US Congressman from Georgia and the former Vice President of the CSA. He had terrible handwriting. A nice contrast from the nice handwriting already shown on this thread!
