Private Reserve's Copper Burst Ink

post-7580-1195499761_thumb.jpg

COLOUR is always desirable in ink, and Copper Burst does not disappoint. Its intense brown colour (with coppery hues) is attractive without being so distracting that one would hesitate to use it for mundane purposes. This ink yields pleasant shading in a wide italic nib; similar results could probably be had from a flexible copperplate nib, too, but I'll leave that the people who actually can do anything worth seeing with flexible nibs. The colour of the ink is slightly lighter than the scanned images suggests, I'm afraid; apologies for that.

IN PENS this ink has behaved quite admirably for me: it flows smoothly and rarely clogs. (All of my pens, however, have fairly generous flow, so I am not certain what would happen in a really dry pen.) Private Reserve inks are said to have neutral pH values, so one need not fear for the safety of pen, paper, hands, pets, children, etc.

ON PAPER Copper Burst is quite agreeable, drying quickly without much feathering, even on my cheapest scrap pads (which often bleed and feather with the alacrity of a slaughtered chicken). The ink is not waterproof and does fade somewhat with exposure to sunlight, so don't expect archival longevity of it. It shows no unusual sensitivity to the oils in human skin. (NB: no humans were harmed in the course of this research.)

AVAILABLE READILY in bottles and cartridges (both universal and international sizes), Private Reserve's Copper Burst will please those of you who like brown ink, chocolate, and coffee. Enjoy!

Excellent review Italicist, and very well done.

I do believe I shall add Copper Burst to my list of wants...just love that shading.

Thanks for the sample and the review. I recently purchased PR Orange Crush for it's "coppery brown" color. I now see that I need BOTH (more ink! more pens!).

I haven't used Chocolat but for me, Copper Burst is much lighter than what you see in the review. Even in my 1.1mm italic pen from Manuscript I don't get a deep color as close to the example above. It's more of a light brownish orange color while Chocolat appears to be a deep brown.

I recently got in a shipment of inks which included: PR Black Magic Blue, Lake Placid Blue, Orange Crush, and Copper Burst. I llike every one of these, but I've used the Copper Burst the most. I loaded it into my Hero 2019, w/ has a tortoiseshell finish. It writes very well, and looks very classy to me. Thanks for the review.

Thanks for the recent comments, sph33r and tony. The scan is darker than the original was, I'm afraid; see remarks under Colour in the review itself. I didn't alter the image for fear of introducing other sorts of distortion or error. Copper Burst is still pretty intense in its darkest shadings, but can be much lighter when thinly spread. The colour sample on the Private Reserve website (PR colours) gives a much better idea of the real colour of the ink.

Yes, thanks for the great review. I'm gathering colors and hope to make an order later in the week. This color will surely make the list. Wonderful penmanship as well.

Thanks, everyone, for kind remarks. It is a pleasant colour and my bottle will soon have to be replaced; it's always the best colours that run dry most quickly!

I just wish the color was as dark as the scan you have!

Anyone have an idea of something that comes close to this tone?
