Here's my finishing room. I've since moved the beadblaster into the nearby closet and added another hand polishing station with more Foredom tools. There's a vacuum system in the same closet.

If you do not mind me asking. What do you do for a living besides making rings? How could a person afford all of this unless that was what he used to make his living?

This is my new bench that I found in the garbage. It was a stand for a 800L water tank but it is now my new bench.

1/2 of the drawers are for material with the extra in the boxes on both sides and at the back is all of the material that is over 3 feet long. The rest of the drawers hold all of my tooling etc.

So when someone asks me where did you get that material some times I really can't tell you. It is about a year before I ever get around to touching any new stock I get.

You are all much too organised.

One day I might buy a lathe, but till then I just use my drill.

If I had that much creative juice next to my lathe I might not have to be as organized. lol

Sorry I could not help myself.

You know sometimes simple is the best. My first lathe was one I rigged up on an old sewing machine base with the foot powered pedal on the bottom and I think I might have had more fun with that one over any other one I have ever had.

Hmm. All I've got is a very messy workbench in the garage, with a benchtop drill press, a bench grinder, a bench vise that's probably older than I am, a PanaVise, a couple of well-worn razor saws, and a few files.

Needless to say, I don't turn anything that isn't already completely round.

Here's my work beast, a 1971 Delta Rockwell 3-phase. I added an inverter to run on my home's power.

It's in my garage, which is cramped, and full of stuff. I've recently started building shelves out of 2x10 and 2x6 pine to clean the place up. I'm hoping over the next two months or so to cover all the bare walls with shelves and fix the wiring to put outlets all over.

Jeff,

Not bad. A little low res but interesting and thanks for the captioning. I'll have to try something like that.

Here's a quick video tour of my shop.

Friday I'll be moving in that last of it...bandsaw, jointer, a couple more workbenches.

I still need to build some cabinets on one of the walls. Then I'm finished.

Brian, your video is private. I am so sad, really wanted to see your setup. I guess this post is pretty old anyway.

A long time ago, there was some interest in my turning gear. I have just recently ordered an improvement, so it is a good idea to finally post a picture of my "hardwood and cordless drill shaft" lathe here. So here it is:

Sorry I don't remember who was interested in seeing this, or I would post an alert. Run out is along the range of 1/4" though. Wow, this is embarrasing.

From the belt wear you have, it looks like you need to adjust the pulley alignment a little bit, by moving the big pulley to the right or the small one to the left in that picture. It always amazes me how my drill press pullies go out of adjustment during use even when the detent screws are done up as tight as I can manage.

Looks great though. Mr Heath Robinson would be proud to know you.

Regards,

Richard.

This shot is a year old, and things have changed much recently. (Ordering an actual lathe amoung them.) Moved the motor to a mount on the bench, with a longer belt spliced out of a drying machine drum belt. (somewhat better, but still a thick spot). And made a dovetailed way to mount on the bed, with a slide that has a screwed down clamp to hold work, or a dead center. And made some cutters out of hard bolt heads to ream out caps. None of this really works all that well, but it is an improvement. Does this mean I need more pictures?

I am very impressed with all the various photos of your workshops. I have a very basic set up with a lathe and a few accessories, yet to fully set up. Learning and borrowing ideas from these photos.

Thank you all very much for these posts.

A few photos of my humble workshop. Housed in an anteroom of my garage and filled with old furniture. They look ugly but cost me nothing and offer a large storage. Need to still do a round of painting the room and furniture and make tool boards so all tools are ready at hand. Dust management is only broom and a old vaccum cleaner. Yet to set up a dust collection system. The ac is more for humidity reduction than cooling... Kolkata is too humid to concentrate. Hope some good creations take place here in due course.
