Aurora 100Th Anniversary Inks - In Many Colors!

Intensity

Recommended Posts

I've just learned about Aurora's upcoming 100th Anniversary limited edition (?) ink range.

It's unclear if these inks will only be made in limited quantity during the anniversary year, or if Aurora is adding them to their standard ink range.

From Appelboom:

"To celebrate the first 100th anniversary of Aurora, they offer a new line of inks in different colors. Perfect blend of black and blue ink, one of inks that have made the history of Aurora.

The Aurora ink comes in a glass bottle of 60ml.

Aurora, founded in 1919 in Turin, is an Italian brand in fine writing instruments. The passion for beauty, style and attention to quality up to the refined details, makes the company an international inspirer. Aurora presents the tradition of the Made in Italy, creating writing instruments in perfect balance between craftsmanship and technology with unique character."

There's no official Aurora website with ink descriptions that I've been able to find. I'm a huge fan of Aurora Black, and Aurora inks are quite safe for all manner of pens, so this 10-color range is very interesting to me.

Thanks for the tip. But I hope that this new line is as good as the age-old excellent "blue and black only" well-celebrated inks and not as "bad" as their new blue-black. "Bad" in the sense that it dries out by itself too easily in a good pen (like my M900).

The bosses at Aurora told me they decided to manufacture these new inks in your honor Mike. I didn't know that you exerted such a high degree of fascination out there.

How kind of you and Aurora! My fascination consisted of a love of their inks (everything I needed in an ink and nothing I didn't) and a respect that they only had two single inks and not dozens to hundreds. Well, that was years and years ago. The issue of the blue-black at the start of 2017 first thrilled me but as soon as I bought it I became worried that it had gone down in merit due to its excessive tendency to dry out.

I'm interested in Sepia, Gray, and Turquoise. I've written to La Stilografica to ask if they have more information about these inks, but it appears the shop is on holiday from August 10-18, so I don't anticipate a reply until after that.

I too have had problems with Aurora Blue-Black drying out too quickly.

I would like to know if the Blue, Blue-Black and Black in this new line are the same formulations as their traditional ink offerings. The wording on the La Stilografica site implies they are the same.

I emailed La Stilografica a while ago about the inks, and they wrote back with

“the new Aurora inks will not be Limited Edition, unfortunately we have not yet received an arrival date, for now we know they should have the same components as the current inks.”

At the recent pen show in Boston, a USA Aurora rep thought the inks will be LE. I’m inclined to believe the Italian source, as it’s closer to home, so to speak, for Aurora. Hopefully not limited edition, and hopefully as excellent as Aurora Black.

Still waiting for any news or reviews of these inks... Looks like delivery estimate got pushed forward. I see only one "review" on La Stilografica, and it's completely non-descriptive, so as to not even count as a review.

La Stilografica Milano has posted an announcement to Facebook about December availability of these inks, saying they are to celebrate Aurora's 100th anniversary. Their website lists these inks as "special edition", which to me is disappointing if they are limited availability.

I've found ink demonstration photographs for every color of the 100th anniversary line! On this wonderful store site:

https://www.stiloestile.it/en/101-bottled-inks/s-3/brand-aurora

If you click on each of these ink colors, you'll see their test writing done in high resolution photographs, and even water resistance an smearing tests included! This site is super useful for other ink reference as well. I've checked all the Graf von Faber Castell inks, and their photographs are very close to what I see in person, given that they use Rhodia paper (it usually gives slightly more muted result and with less sheen than Japanese paper).

I love the Green, Gray, Sepia, and Blue-Black.

Great catch! Thank you for letting us know. I really like the grey, purple, green and turquoise.

Looks like American retailers are getting this now (Vanness and Anderson Pens)... but only in 10 bottle sets? Does anyone know if they will be sold individually? No interest in dropping $300 on these inks.

They are available as single bottles in a few Italian shops I follow, and they ship internationally. PM me if you want links, not sure putting them here breaks any rules...

Unboxing video of the 100th Anniversary Verde (green)

Those are just irritating: unboxing video for an ink without actually demonstrating the ink? What's the point? So far, the only writing samples I've found are from that StiloeStile on-line store. Hoping to see more writing samples before I buy these inks. I like Aurora, but at this point I have enough inks to only add new ones I'm really impressed with.

Have no idea if standard version of ink will be substituted by anniversary line but here are the samples I've made today. The colors are quite interesting with Grey, Red and Sepia appealing the most to me.

The newer bottle design:

You can see some kind of sheen on the edges of q-tip swatches. When writing it's visibe only with wet and wide nibs.

Paper: Rhodia Dotpad 80 gsm

Pen: Dip Pen

New bottles have different labeling than the one you can see in the Aurora advertising stuff. No color name printed on the bottle nor volume. Just long paper sticker glued to the sides of the bottle and the cap. You need to remove the sticker before opening the ink and once it's removed you can only tell the color by looking what's inside the bottle.

Capacity is 55 ml instead of 60 ml.

Thank you very much for sharing your sample swatches of these new inks with us!

I have been wild to try a few of these inks & hesitant to order before seeing a sample of the color before doing so; I finally grew tired of waiting for ANY Retailer to offer a swatch & ordered the two colors I wanted most from the Netherlands (after being disappointed to learn that the first Retailer in the US was only offering them as a set.)

I have been very happy with the orange & sepia I received but hesitant to order the green & red until I was convinced they would be the colors you show in your swatches; I thank you for confirming my impression that Aurora would offer such rich, expressive colors as you have shared with us.
