I just got a palladium Studio, the section isn't slippery... And it's gorgeous.

So maybe the new style section will be used on the Special Editions?

Highly unlikely.

The palladium (same color as barrel) and stainless steel (soft touch black) models are the only ones in the studio lineup to have different sections.

They did not incorporate that even in the Piano Black SE which IIRC was launched after the palladium.

The British Racing Green too got the metal section.

  • 1 month later...

Here vacationing in Ireland this week. First time I've held a Studio. It was the blue one. They're really nice. Have found the perfect work suitable pen yet. This blue one could be a winner ... now the Terracotta would seal the deal. Keeping an eye out for it now. Anyone have any release updates?

I'm not even a huge fan of earth tone pens but those two are beautiful. And it has nothing to do with the fact that studios are a great pen to begin with... =)

I am debating getting the terracotta with the EF steel nib.

Does anyone know of other pens that are a similar color, with snap caps? (Bonus for an ink window.) I am not sold about getting another Lamy steel nib, as these tend to run broader than I would like, per my experience with Safaris. (The gold is way out of my price range.) But I really like the look of this pen; this color is calling to me.

And I have read that the finish on these matte colored pens can wear off disappointingly easily. Any feedback on thay front would be helpful.

Advice?

Looks like a Terracotta will be on my wish / watch list.

Wonder if the 'gold' nib will be an available option??? Other than ordering as a spare of course.

It looks like, yes, the gold nib is available. Cult Pens and The Writing Desk UK both show the gold nib as an option (pre-orders right now, with stock coming soon).

AFAIK, the Lamy 14k nib is not listed on Cult Pens and it does not seem to be an option/upgrade on the pens either unlike The Writing Desk.

The only Lamy 14K nibs are the ones factory fitted on the pens.

OTOH, Lamy Studio finish is 50:50, but the CS is stellar should an issue arise. I have not experienced any problems, yet.

You are welcome.

Hopefully, the matt finish on the new SE will hold up well.

A link for the Ruby Red Limited Ed. (look at the two pics in the middle of the write up),

The correct name for that finish is Royal Red, not Ruby Red.

Thank you, and the shiny/brighter color is called Wild Rubin? Both colors are 2014 editions, IIRC.

I've seen them both in a shop. The colors are a little darker and not so saturated like in the marketing pictures. Or at least this was my impression. But they look very good.
