What Kind Of Nib Is This? (Images Included)

I've been reading about Arabic calligraphy and found that it uses right-oblique (or left, I forgot) nib held at a 90 degree (kept vertical) to the page to achieve the effect.

I came across this product on Aliexpress (no affiliation, haven't bought the item) which interestingly has a different shape. It looks like how a nib would look like if the tip of the nib is kept in between two giant punching machine like the ones you see in MarioKart which can squash you. This nib seems to solve the problem of having to hold an oblique nib at 90 degrees, and can use it like you would a regular fountain pen.

Here's what I need to know: Does anyone know what this nib is called? I haven't seen the likes of this anywhere else, and can't find any name except "Arabic calligraphy".

Here are some pics from the product page:

I always call them Arabic/architect nibs. Although these are much larger. Maybe someone will chime in with a label. I have a nib that was ground to have the same effect. It's like writing with a western italic vertically (sides pointing up/down). Makes a thin vertical line and a broad horizontal one

Looks as if it would do a great job with Arabic or Hebrew scripts. Yep, would call it an architect's nib or Arabic nib. Are you going to try it? If you do, please give us a review.

Best of luck,

Yours,
Randal

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?

I've been looking for a pen with a REAL arabic point for a while, like a proper reed pen.

Took a gamble and bought the first style (fourth pic) you pictured

I'll review it when it comes. $40, I hope I don't get burned.

I got it in tonight, inked it up, and it is something special. Think a pilot parallel but usable as an actual pen, with a sweet reverse writing architect nib. It feels in the hand similar to a jinhao x750 in terms of build quality (better grip) with a matte coated, heavy brass barrel and a very tight snap cap that has a specific post step and posts very securely. Size wise, think lamy safari. It's a little sensitive to rotation being a parallel plate nib, but it really may ne the only non specialty architect nib you can buy. This pen might even make it into daily rotation if it has no drying out problems

I'll post a real review this week, but I think this may be a real gem.

Thank you all for your inputs :) Arabic or architect nib it is!

@Honeybadgers- thank you so much! Are you planning on using this for regular English writing? Or do you write a different language? I'll be anticipating your review :)

Arabic, Urdu, Persian and Pashto point nibs. I like these nibs.

They are quite extreme examples are they not? Would it be really difficult to write cursive english handwriting with these nibs?

You are right. I would not be comfortable writing English cursive handwriting with these nibs.
