Two Korean Made Pilot Pens Review

Hello pen lovers in FPN.

I'm south korean student and this is my first posting in FPN.

Today i'm going to review two korean-made Pilot pens.

Before i review these pens, i'll talk just a little bit about the company called Pilot-korea.

(Because I don't have many informations about it.)

Pilot-korea founded in 1954 and they are still making their fountain pens.

From 1960s to 1980s they mass produced many kinds of fountain pens and their pens were major in south korea and until now they export their pens and inks to south-east asian country.

(At that time foreign fountain pens were very expensive. For example, when you want to buy a Parker 21 super in korea, you had to pay over 100$ in a department store. )

But after economical crisis in 1997 they decreased their line-ups, so today they stopped manufacturing gold nib fountain pen and Inset nib fountain pens.

(These days they only making small, thin FPs.)

Now, let's talk about my Pilot-korea's pens.

1. Pilot-korea DUET

Nib size is fine and it has hastil type steel gold-plated nib.

I bought it from korean fountain pen club.

It has little line variation and flexibility.

(Ink : Parker Quink Blue)

2. Pilot-korea Elite

I think that you already know about this pen.

This pen is korean manufactured Elite and it has semi-hooded steel nib.

(It was gold plated nib.)

Like Duet, it has little line variation but have little bit thicker line, because my father used it for 10 years.

(Nib size is fine.)

It is my father's pen and he gave it to me.

He bought this pen between 1979~ early 1980s.

So i think that it manufactured in these times.

I'm sorry that i'm not good at english writing.

I hope you that this posting is useful.

Thank you!

Very interesting. Did Pilot produce the same pen models in Korea and Japan?

No. they didn't make same model.

Although Pilot-korea produced several similar models which produced by Pilot-Japan, ( Like my father's Elite.)(especially in 1970s.) their pen had it's originality.

But in 1988 they reproduced Myurex as "Tiger-88".

(But "Tiger-88" had some differences compared to Myurex.)

They had their website, but it closed several years ago.

Actually almost every fountain pen makers in korea don't have their website. (except JAVA pen co.)

I think that they will open their website again.

(They are renewing their shop in jong-gak, Seoul.)

Very interesting. I recently acquired a pen that is a similar shape to your Duet, but has a different finish and jewels. It has what looks to be the same nib. Have a look here: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/323724-curiouser-and-curiouser/

and tell me if you've ever run across anything similar -- I was told by someone at Pilot-USA that my pen was Korean-made for the Korean market.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I think that it is "SATURN" fountain pen.

It is discontinued pen. But some sellers in korea still selling some NOS Saturn in different colours.

Of course it is a fountain from Pilot-korea.

I have a Micro Korea fountain pen which looks like the Micro Korea rollerballs. Do you know anything about the company?

Welcome to FPN! And thank you for a very interesting post on Pilot Korea. I knew nothing about them.

There is another review this week discussing a Pilot Tiger 600, and discussing whether it is a Japanese or a Korean pen. Do you have any information on it?

(By the way, your English is very good. Please keep posting!)

According to review of korean FP community, Pilot Tiger 600 is a korean version of old justice fountain pen.

But there are some difference in appearance.

  • 4 years later...

Thanks for the review. I just got the Pilot Elite as NOS which I think is the same as the one in your review (looks similar, has a plastic body). I know it's years late, but I learned a lot about my pen thanks to you. Hope you are safe and healthy.
