How Many Inked Pens?

Charles Skinner

Recommended Posts

I write a lot in my journal, everyday, and I keep, perhaps, ten pens inked and ready to write at any one time. I change pens and inks, usually four or five times on a single page. Sometime I think that I am keeping way too many pens inked and that I should just use one pen and ink for each page, or at the least, only two different pens/inks per page. If you are a serious journal writer, how do you deal with this? C. S.

I keep only two inked -- blue-black for the bulk of my writing, and red for emphasis or highlighting.

I too usually have about 10 inked, although I don't journal as much as I should. I sometimes feel the same way. Haven't yet figured it out. Good luck.

I'm not at all a serious journal writer, but I can't help giving my opinion : I think that if it's how you feel like writing your journal, it's OK. it's YOUR journal, it's your production. It's you.

So do what you want to. Use as many pen, as many colours as you want,

The problem with inked pen, is that the ink dries if you don't use them. If you use them, there is no big deal with how many are inked :)

One pen roll, two pen rolls, three pen rolls ... So many pen rolls ! Do you want one ?

my tiny shop is open and you can have a closer look on my website to see my cotton (and sometimes silk) OOAK penrolls.

I have all pens inked that I own (that is 11 :D ), just because I find it nice to have so many pens, colors and nibs to chose from. When I write in my journal I usually keep the same pen for one entry (which can be only a few lines or even 10 pages). This is how I personally like it. But if you like to switch pens and colors on the same page, so why not? It is your yournal and you should feel comfortable with it.

I'm not a journal writer, but I keep only two pens inked at a time. And when I do write, I just use one pen with one ink.

Nowadays I only have two pens inked at any one time (or I'd be forever letting ink dry-out in pens that I'd forgotten were inked).

I pick contrasting ink colours (i.e. never two blacks, or two washable blues at the same time), usually one conservative 'work-like' colour, while the other is whatever ink takes my fancy at the time I need to re-fill.

My own journaling practice is to write each individual journal entry with only one pen.

I do not habitually write all entries with the same ink until the pen runs dry (although that has been known to happen), but choose whichever I fancy at the start of each entry.

That said, I have on occasion used the other pen/ink that is in current use to underline/highlight particular words/sentences.

Pretty much two pens inked at all times, a personal pen and work pen. Work pen is a Pilot Metro with a fine nib inked with a blend of Waterman's Florida Blue & Waterman's Black for ticking n tying (finance guy here) and a personal pen inked with whatever I'm feeling at the moment that I journal with. Right now pen number two is a dark lilac Lamy Safari inked with Papier Plume Garden District Azalea.

Two or three different pens each with a different ink. My journal pen will always be filled Pelikan Blue-Black.

The number I have inked varies. Sometimes it's 3 or less, other times it's 5 or more. Sometimes I want to ink up a bunch, other times I'm too lazy to do that much cleaning. The beauty of the hobby, though, is that you can ink as many or as few as you'd like. Since they're yours and being used to suit you, the only right answer to how many you should ink is totally dependent upon how many you feel you desire :)

I am still back there stuck on the question of a serious journal writer. I had no idea my occasional journal should meet standards of gravitas, or should I? This requires a note to clear my head. I shall take up one of my currently six inked pens. This is a new topic so also will be the ink colour. When I work out my seriousness level, I shall let you know. So far it is looking like I may not be a major accident but just an anomaly.

Mostly just two, occasionally three. One to take to work with me, and one for writing at home. That's it.

I journal a lot. I use different pens with different colored inks to help describe my mood. Whatever you want to do in a journal is fine.

Usually 2, 1 reg ink & 1 permanent ink. Right now I haven't refilled the permanent ink but will have to do so soon so I can write some checks.
