Great presentation. Would love to see more 3D catalogues like this.

PELIKAN - Too many birds in the flock to count. My pen chest has proven to be a most fertile breeding ground.

It was good to see what the pens cost then. I have three green 400's, a tortoise 400. Those were 25DM or less than $6.25. In I think the DM to $ was 4.20 to one back then.,,$5.95.

My 500 was 'only' DM35, $8.75 or more than likely, $8.33.

Cheap foreign junk. After all a Snorkel the King of Pens, cost some $12+ in real money.

Well to a poor Army brat in Germany in the 60's...even cheap Pelikans had increased in price, that they cost as much as a real pen....a Snorkel.

MB had the nerve to want more for their gold plated trim clunker than rolled gold trimmed Snorkel. :headsmack:

I got mugged by the P-75 brothers when I went to buy that Snorkel in @ '70.

So it only took me some 40 more years to get that Snorkel....long after having some of them 'ugly' Pelikans. :)

My, I even had an 'ugly' MB 234 1/2 before getting the King of Pens. :P

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

I love the two striped tortoise pens -- those are beauties!

I have a 500 (51-54) and a '54 400. Date to '54 because the nib has a width and the barrel too. '55 400n-56 400nn, are nib width marked.

The 500 OBBB has no width in that would mar the rolled gold piston cap. The earlier '50-53/4 400's are marked only on the barrel to nib width. That is a signature pen, one needs 2/3s or 3/4ths of a sheet to write a legal three word name.

In both the tortoise is lighter than my '90's M400.

Oddly the gold cap when put on the M400 makes the darker tortoise look murky. It looks much better in the brown cap so dark that is black. I do need a black pen next to it and very good light to even think the cap and piston cap is a black with a brown tinge.
