A Parker 51 Fantasy Snake Pen

PenHero

Recommended Posts

Hi, Folks!

This is another fantasy black Parker 51 Vacumatic filling fountain pen c1940s with a later undated customized sterling silver cap with added raised snake element. Metalwork believed done in Mexico.

The background includes glass pieces from a board game.

The craftsmanship is without question. But I wouldn't want one of these: I don't really like snakes. Plus, one of the things I like so much about 51s is that they're understated pens. Adding bling like this seems to be the antithesis of what a Parker 51 is (I don't like most of the Kullock fantasy 51s for the same reason) -- it's gilding the lily; and a 51 is enough of a lily on its own merits that it doesn't, IMO, need gilding....

YMMV

Update - the owner informs me that the metalwork was done by Ariel Kullock of Argentina in the 1990s.

Love Ariel's work. Not cheap .. but WONDERFUL!!!...

I have a couple of his "fantasy" barrels. The best way to "spice" up a boring 51 (black ones are boring... lol)

Not sure i like it, but i appreciate the craftmanship. On the principle, i find it a little counter intuitive as the new cap is quite opposite to the design intent.

Oh well, taste is a personnal matter ;)

very nice photography but this pen gives me mixed feelings, which is a sign that someone out there probably really love it or really hate it.

Beautiful! Love a good snake-inspired pen. This is one of my favorites!
