Manufacturers since 1864, Diamine Inks relocated to this purpose built 'state of the art' factory in Liverpool in 1925, where they successfully carried on using the traditional methods and formulas for ink production. Over the years the company has changed hands and are now located close to the world famous Aintree Race Course

Bilberry is a heavily saturated ink that runs smooth as silk. I haven't observed any feathering, bleedthrough or ghosting on paper I used. Dry time is rather long - it can easily go as far as 20 seconds on some papers. We may discuss if it's blue with strong purple accents or vice-versa. For me it has more purple than "classic" blue.

This looks like a lovely ink, but I suspect it's a stainer.

I like Bilberry quite a bit, but I have had some bleed-through with Leuchtturm paper.

Great review.

 

Also, great Neil Gaiman quote. He's one of my favorite authors.

This is also a favorite ink of mine, but my problem is that sometimes it clogs up some of my pens or I sometimes have hard starts. Still, I can't stop using it!

Vis, I always meant to compare Bilberry to Sargasso Sea. I love them both. Billberry is a lot more purple (as are blue berries), but I think it's a great super saturated ink.

This is such a beautiful color!

Would you happen to know the drying time on 'regular' printer paper?

I'd be interested in getting it, but I have to choose a color that won't take too long to dry on my school's worksheets.

How would one compare Bilberry to Sailor Shigure, in terms of hue and behavior?

 

At first glance there doesn't seem to be a huge difference between Diamine Bilberry & Sailor Shigure

Thank you for this comparison. I was wondering about these same two inks. On the fence about if I should buy Bilberry because I already have Sailor Shigure and Lamy Dark Lilac and find myself switching between both inks in a few pens. Should I just stick with my two inks until I use up the bottles, or should I buy a bottle of Bilberry also???? Edited by 888007888

You are very welcome. Looking at my comparison again it seemed to me that the Bilberry in my Franklin Christoph broad nib came up much closer to the Shigure than either amberleadavis' or vismavitra's examples .

 

So I dipped a slightly broader nib in the Bilberry and the result as you can see is a lighter shade of purple, closer to Dark Lilac but still very much inbetween it and the Shigure.
