For The Love Of 139

A while ago I was asked if it would be possible to make a 139 inspired pen based on my replica barrels.I didn't make one so far so I thought "let's try it!".The goal was making a complete pen, including piston so I started from making whole unit from scratch. The idea was to have a piston taking as much ink as possible so there was lots of play between functionality and shortnes. The result was not as complicated in design as original but a whole lot more durable instead.(Final test showed in capacity 2,6 ccm.)

With piston unit ready the rest was just a question of hours of lathe work. Here's the result. The pen is made of ebonite and resin with white dot in casein, cap rings made of silver and goldplated brass.

Making this pen was truly a pleasure.

It looks great. You have now joined the ranks of those who can make a credible, and functional 139 fantasy/homage pen. Congratulations on your excellent work. I hope you enjoy using the pen.

I'll ask the question we'd all like to know...would you consider selling one of these works of art?

i would feel a little anxious using a real MB 139 as an everyday pen, but I would feel fine using a freshly made pen like this. So, please consider answering the question here of by PM. And congrats on the work: the white dot is anice improvement.

Hello,

thanks for all comments.

Fred: the barrels are made of hard resin with lines from the inside merged in barrel wall. The white dot was to crown the captop but sure, some maintenance as re-polishing, cork replacement, regulation is always granted from maker to the buyer. From what I know, new owner is satisfied with the pen.

I'll echo the prevailing sentiment here: that's a phenomenal piece of work. To me, it's clearly more attractive than most/all of the current MB lineup.

I hope you decide to make these available to forum readers. To gauge interest you can get a subscription: prospective buyers can sign up and - if you get enough people who will buy - it might be worthwhile to proceed. Any interest on your part?
