Is There A Gold Palliag Nib?

Recommended Posts

I picked up excellent Osmia Supra 774D. It has rigid fine gold nib. I have done a bit of research and apparently 4 in the model name is for the nib size, 7 in the hundreds number means gold nib, and D stands for Palliag nib.

What confuses me is, that I thought that Palliag nibs were made from silver and nickel alloy. My nib is marked 14K gold but is hard as Palliag nib should be.Is there a gold Palliag nib? Does anyone know more about Palliag nibs?

Hello

The Osmia numbering system is sometimes puzzeling. Actually a three digit number stands for "gold nib" and possibly the D for "Palliag nib" I have one ( see pic ) but I have no information about. From where did you get it? An Osmia fp with Palliag nib must have two digits in the numbering system. A gold nib must have a 585 / 14kt or 750 / 18 kt imprint!

Palliag: The German nazi government forced the industry to make research for a substitute alloy for gold nibs in 1936. DEGUSSA invented Palliag, an alloy with Palladium and Silver (Argentum). There are real flexible nibs made of Palliag. It has nothing to do with the Chrome/ Nickel alloy used eg. by Pelikan in the CN nibs. The use of gold in nibs had been prohibitetd in Germany exept the nibs had been purchased with gold. In 1938/39 the use of Palladium had been prohibited.
