Goodness BuzzJ -- I' don't think I've seen either of them before! What are they? Especially the pen/pencil set -- they're gorgeous!

Buzz-

You still need the ring for the ring top? Would like to see nib imprint if you get a chance.

Ruth,

The Egg Shell pen and pencil are Parker experimentals. Neither was marketed in appreciable numbers. The pen is of course a first generation Vacumatic. The pencil is in the Premier/Moderne "Thrift Time"/depression model.

The ring top is a Golden Arrow, the initial version that morphed into Vacuum Filler then Vacumatic.

Todd,

Yep, still need a ring. I made one that just looked half a**ed so I took it off til I can find a full a** one.

No pic of ring top's nib, but it is the same as this GA in burgundy (feather together as can be found in Vac Fillers as well):

At the risk of being accused of showboating, this pristine mint Vac Band Maxima is pretty cool.

How about 1 ofs.

I've seen more than a few of those in someone's collection that had me drooling . . . .

Interesting topic.

How about a "2 of" ? ... there may be more - don't know...

This pen is a 75 made of pewter but without the traditional inscription of the bicentennial series. It has the model shop numbers on the cap. The most intriguing thing is the cap and barrel jewels are not wood, but rather... opals... go figure.

Fun anyway...

I suspect that the pen is right down your alley.

Almost embarrassed to post after the last few.

Just a small collection myself, some 45s, some Frontiers, a few Vectors - nothing vintage.

But I do have a Falcon 50 Flighter and a Frontier Dawn FP/BP set.

Favorite would be the dark blue 45 GT that started this whole thing off for me.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

John, your pens are fantastic!

The rarest one I have a picture of at the moment is this Pompeian Brown* Duofold.

*There is some debate among some serious collectors about the usage of this term. There is no doubt on my part that the color is Pompeian Brown, though what collectors usually think of when they consider the possible existence of a Pompeian Brown Duofold is a bandless Duofold with a Jack Knife Safety imprint on the cap. You can read quite a bit about it if you do a search on the internet.

My rarest Parker is nowhere as rare as what has been shown here, but I'll share anyway. I got a very good deal on the pen on the bay. I found the matching(I believe) pencil much later.

My favorite Parker is a black Senior Max that had been retipped to a stub.

Don't be embarrassed. 45s are great pens. And I'm a total sucker for Vectors: I currently have 8, including a 4 nib unit calligraphy set, and have been looking for a replacement barrel for my first one -- and my first "good" pen -- which has a crack right at the threads. :( (Who knew that cobalt blue was going to turn out to be an unusual color?)

Ruth, are these the cobalt blue?

No, sadly, they all look darker. At least on my screen.

It just occurred to me, though, that I should maybe thumb through the ink review journals I have and try to match the barrel color to an ink color. I'm not good at carrying a color in my head (which is weird, because I studied art and graphic design in college), but off the cuff I'd say that a close match might be something like J Herbin Eclat de Sapphir or De Atramentis Robert Louis Stevenson.

Thanks for making me think of that! I'll go look sometime tomorrow, when it's daylight (hopefully it will quit raining before the weekend -- we had some thunderstorms roll through around dinnertime and it got really black outside for a while).

In May 1996, leaving Cairns airport in Oz I saw some sparkly bright blue Vectors. Didn't get one, though I was tempted, and have never seen the like since - so have regretted the decision for years.

My least common P61's are my 'Clouds'. Though they are not in good condition, one's mint, one is a bit foxed and the third is severely dragoned.

My favourite Parker is my perfect nibbed P61 Insignia. I hardly ever use it as I don't want to damage the nib.

My most used is a Duofold Centennial P&B with a BI nib.

My only franken51 is also my best P51. It's a Sterling Silver capped black P51 with my first P61's nib in it. The pen also has a green cap jewel similar to a UK Duofold of the 1960's.

Regards,

Richard.

Hi, The 'Cobalt blue' Vector is something like this Pantone sample (the far left image.)

https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/92394229830395809/

I'm fairly sure that this is the current colour as on sale in the supermarkets in the UK, (at about £11), but it's not the much darker blue that was used in the1990s Vectors,(as in mitto's photo).

I know that colour well, as it's the first Parker fountain pen I owned.

My other rare Parkers are:

A Golden Web Vacumatic with solid 9K gold band:

An "Overmax" Vacumatic. Oversize contours with Maxima-style cap band. Pen at right in picture.

A "Dahlberg" Vacumatic. The pen is faceted like a Parkette Deluxe. This is likely the only one in existence. Note that it is missing a cap band. Sorry the picture isn't very good.

Yes, that looks fairly similar although, since I'm not on Pinterest, I keep getting the annoying popup asking if I want to sign up, right in front of the square (but the pen is upstairs, and the color on the screen depends on how much reflection I'm getting from the floor lamp behind me (incandescent 3 way bulb).

The weather was still fairly crummy this morning, so not good lighting to do a real comparison.'

Wow! Thanks for posting this. I've been interested in Vacs for years and have gathered a mini-collection of the usual suspects with chrome trim (my focus). But I never even knew this strange creature existed!

edit: Curious, why has it garnered the name of the the filling mechanism's inventor?
