This is one of the pens I picked up today.

I do like the cap band for this Lady Duofold.

It is beautiful. And looks to be in pretty good condition. And I gather you bought it for almost nothing.

Congrats on this and the others that accompaied it.

My first reaction was that the cap band might not be original Parker but rather a repair for a broken cap lip.

Alternatively, it could be an original Duofold Deluxe cap with wide gold cap band that was decorated by a third party (original wide cap bands were smooth).

Other thoughts: the pre-streamlined cap top is in accordance with the stepped section but not with the streamlined blind cap.

The cap is intact under the cap band.

All I can tell you all is the pen was a consignment with the other pens that I picked up, The auction was held in Genoa City WI [ Aprox. 45 miles east of Janesville WI ] That said I hope that others that are more knowledgeable of early Parkers will comment. For the novice that I am and living in the area this pen is the real deal, but will need more information on the pen. If I knew who consigned the pen we would have one more piece to the puzzle. Some auctions that I go to are estate sales of former Parker Pen employees and never know what they have hidden away.

Although it is described as custom special.

More than one custom specials of the same pattern? Is it plausible?

Thanks for the link. Mitto

We will still need more info. Every little bit helps.

Price is what I thought it could be before I looked.

If you collect Duofold pens it should be kept.

  • 9 months later...

I remembered this thread on FPN when I saw this Jack Knife pen for sale:

This Parker Jack Knife filler has a similar decorative cap band as that of the lady Duofold cap shown above.

Just thought it would be interesting to add a few pictures of that pen, for future reference:

Nice. The pictures, in a way, do support the idea that the cap band might have originated from the Parker factory itself.

yes, three different pens with similar decorative cap band are suggestive of a factory fitted band.

Interesting that this band appears both on the Jack Knife and Duofold pens.

Possibly, this band is from the period in which Jack Knife and Duofold pens overlapped (early 1920s), who knows.

Yes. I do concur. And sorry for my mistyping of the word 'pictures' that I have now edited and corrected.

I did show my pen to some of the folks at the CPS back in May,

I did have an offer to sell the pen, but I said no and will keep it for now.

Good decision, Ken. Keep it. Don't sell it. At least for now.
