Now That's A Nib...

I was reminded of the famuse scene from the 1980s movie Crocodie Dundee. The main character is a master of the Australian bush, but whne he comes to Manhattan he is out of his emelent, though amazingly self-assured. (Hence the comedy elements - a fish out of water story). As he is escprting his lady friend, a few movie-style street thugs pull out a knfe to mugh the couple. While the woman is scared and wants to comply stating they have a knife, he calmly looks at the punks and says, "That's not a knife. THAT'S a knife." whereupon he pulls out a huge knife and scares the thugs away.

That scene was running through my head when I picked up a jumbo Montegrappa pen with a leather overlay. It is stitched with Gucci and I was told it was for sale in around the 1950s or 1960s in the Gucci boutiques. There were no boxes or papers so who knows for sure. I have only one other similar pen, but perhaps someone readig this knows more.

I know there are the occasional posts where people ask abut the biggest nib in a pen. Well, this is my answer...

It might not look so large in isolation. Here is a comparison shot vs. a #12 nib and a #6 nib.

Another shot compared to a #6 nib from Bexley.

Here is the feed.

Finally a comparison shot next to a Bexley Decoband - a large and somewhat thick pen like the large vintage Wahl decoband pens.

Yes, the pen works. No, I do not write with it.

Nice! But there is no doubt I'd have to do a writing sample. Might have to use two hands.... 😀

Wow, that is a big nib.
