Trz Or Not Trz? That Is The Question!

Hi,

I have fluted gold, brushed chrome, and black matte fountain pens which I believe are Models 70, 40, and 60 in the TRZ line. I also have a slim, muave-colored fountain pen that is clipless and has the same nib style. Is this also a TRZ? Or is this some type of variation? If it is a TRZ, does anyone know the model number, or date of introduction?

Thanks!

Karen

Sheaffer TRZ were slim fountain pens and later slightly modified and relabeled as Sheaffer Slim Fashion pens. The clips were straightened and the end caps were replaced with metal from the black plastic of the earlier TRZ. The black and mauve are Fashion Slim pens. The last of the series is the fatter Fashion Slim Pen II. I once bought one because I wanted a (Targa) slim converter. Very few pay attention to these at fleaBay. I got the hard to find slim converter really cheap for $12.00.

So the gold and silver are TRZ, but the black and mauve are the Fashion models? Do you know if the Fashions came as both as both clipped and clipless? Some of my confusion was caused by a picture I saw of some Fashion models, but they all had clips and a Sheaffer imprint in the nib, which these don't.

The gold one I got as a gift in the 1980's, and the others I have just picked up along the way because I like a slimmer pen and they write very nicely.

The range of clipless Fashion pens was called 'In-Fashion' made in the 80's and early 90's, the same profile as the slim Fashion pens sans the clip.

The gold and chrome ones on the left are TRZ, note the black top that comes down over the clip. The ones on the right are a slim Fashion pen. I have a bunch of the TRZ clips that I got in the stuff from the Sheaffer service center. I don't think I'll ever get rid of the silly things.

You can use a Montiverdi mini converter in these pens instead of the slim Sheaffer converter. A heck of a lot cheaper.

The clipless Fashion pens are often seen in ball point and in a range of very attractive colors, often with nice linen sleeves. They make excellent, inexpensive gifts courtesy of ebay. The clipless FPs are rather hard to find and I've only seen them in limited colors.

The first one I had was the mauve-colored (I think Sheaffer called it dusty rose) ballpoint in the tapestry case. When I found the matching fountain pen, it was a wonderful day! I have some really nice pens, but these guys are fun for daily drivers.

Thanks for helping me understand the nuances between the TRZ, Fashion and In-Fashion pens. I always learn so much here.
