I am researching a recent find and keep coming back to this unfortunate parts pen being an early MB. It is hard rubber, clear number 206 with letters 206 St. Some photos attached. it measures 4 inches closed, retracts very well. Any comments welcome. Thank you.

I didn't find a 206 safety pen in the rosler book, it did have a 204 and 202 safety pens from the 30's

And then, there's this : found here http://fountainpenboard.com/forum/index.php?/topic/4517-pictures-of-vintage-montblanc-pens/

A friend has just shown me his full length complete 206 ? earliest model with red complete cap end. This cap actually screws to my parts pen, so am guessing mine is a short.

Your barrel has a crosswise striped end under the turning blind cap which indicates that the production was between 1909 and 1914. I suppose that there also was an engraving on the barrel which should have meant "THE SIMPLO PEN".

So you should look for an early "Simplo" nib no.6 with a heart hole and a cap with a plain red or white or black top with no engraving and no star.

Edited:

The other possibility can be that the barrel belonged to one of the sub or stationary brands. But then the sub brand name should be printed either on the barrel or on the (missing) cap.

And the third option is that there are some parts put together from different production periods, like a mechanic with the 206 engraving from the 30's on a pre 1914 barrel.

There are too many options to be sure ...

Thank you. On the complete long pen I mentioned the nib is heart shaped 6 with Simplo. Neither pen has any barrel imprint that I can see. The good cap has Rouge et Noir Pat App'l imprint and also Rothsohild Behrens & Co Hamburg.

I guess you have no suitable spares, or know of any ?

Well, the more I think about your fragment, the more is confusing me:

1.) The barrel with no imprint says very little to nothing about the production period.

2.) The mechanic with the crosswise lines is definitely indicating a production period of pre 1914 (in opposite to the lengthwise flutes).

3.) The engraving "206" indicates a production time of 1935 to 1937.

No. 2 and 3 are not matching.

What kind of flute its on your friend's pen? crosswise or lengthwise? And does it really have the "206" on the blind cap or just a "6"?

Thank you again for the input. Hi, some pictures may help. No 206 nor 6 on blind cap, that I can see.

Just been advised that both are very rare pens, is this correct or just wishful thinking.

No idea on the cap length, does not look like it has been shortened.
